Hot water heater door

Forums:

The door on the hot water heater gets scalding hot when the hot water heater is on. Is that normal? It's obviously labeled hot, but ours gets so hot that it would singe skin if you touched it. If it is normal, any suggestions for keeping people away? We have 2 young kids and can never use the hot water heater because of the fear of burning. Thanks!!

Busted Wheel Well

Forums:

I blew a tire on my Scamp and as it flew apart a piece of it busted a BIG hole in the wheel well and storage bin where the water tank is located.  Has anyone else ever had that happen? I was able to cover the hole with quarter inch metal "rat-wire" then I . fiberglassed over the wire to complete the repair.  Fortunately, none of the damage was visible from the outside or from the inside of the camper except in the closet and in the storage bin.

Screws in the back wall

Forums:

As we are cleaning up busted caps we found two odd screws on the exterior back wall, below the belly band and on either side of the spare tire. The caps were deteriorated and they were covering some Phillips head wood screws that had rusted too much to determine their length.

What do these screws do? Should I replace them or just fill the holes with epoxy? If I should replace them, any guess on what length they should be?

Unattached Electrical Wires by Fuse Box

Forums:

New to the forum.  Recently purchased a 1996 16' Scamp to replace our 1994 13' due to a family addition.  The 'new' Scamp had a few easily resolved issues..,I'm enjoying getting to know it inside and out.  I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the unattached wires in this picture might be.  There is no power converter, only a fuse box, I'm thinking perhaps these are to be connected to a converter?

Differing wheel well height and tire clearance.

Forums:

Wondering if this is normal (Scamp 16 layout 4, 8 months old)

The starboard side seems lower and I took these measurements:

Height from pavement to top of wheel well (body outside):

Port = 25 1/8 and Starboard = 23 3/8

Clearance between top of tire and wheel well:

Port = 4 1/4 and Starboard = 3 3/4

(All measurements in inches)

Note that height of the frame and axle is about the same on both sides. It is 10 1/8 to 10 1/4 inch from pavement to axle, and 14 1/2 on both sides to the frame.

Locked out of the Scamp

Forums:

We are in the process, or should say was in the process, of getting our Scamp 5er ready for a long weekend starting this Thursday 5/19/2016. Yesterday the wife was working inside the camper giving it a good spring cleaning while I was outside waxing. I went back this AM to wax the top between the top hatch and the AC doing so through the hatch. Imagine my surprise when I could not open the door, knowing I did not lock it I wrongly accused my wife of doing so but was quickly corrected about that.
