When we purchased our 2005 Escape 17 in Oct. the seller mentioned the water tank overflows if you fill it all the way and then shorts out the electrical when the frame grounds get wet. I didn't think that was the reason behind those issues, but it was a big reason we got an Escape at an excellent price and I look more at the foundational items of a trailer than maintenance issues.
I wrote this experience up years ago and since it is such a relevant ongoing topic for older Scamps, I will post it here. It is quite an adventure and I'll post it in installments as I did originally. Hopefully, if you have to replace ur axle you will find it a bit easier than mine was!
I would say looking back, the axle replacement was the single most difficult component of rehabbing our 1981 13 Scamp. It would have been the single most expensive component as well, if not for the wild and woolly story I am about to relay to you over the next few installments.
So I am outside opening the black water dump valve while my wife is showering. Copius amounts of 'Shower' water starts escaping between the shower pan and the toilet. Phoned Scamp. They were a little vague about causes. Maybe a wax seal between the two. Any suggestions?
Also,
The bolt is not present on the outside wall side of the tank. Scamp was not sure it came with one..Side bath.
The Escape 17 has two vinyl snap on rock guards that were very filthy. Thanks to Joe Z who turned me onto Bleche White which you can get at any auto store or Wally. It says it is a tire cleaner, but you won't believe how it cleans vinyl. My rock guards are brite white again and look brand new.
Note: I am posting this for a couple, Don and Peggy, that were stuck in Nova Scotia on a trip with this issue and are now enroute home to GA. They will be joining when they get home and I'll assign this to their account when they come online. In the meantime they felt this was good information for SOI members to have.
We are intresteed in buying a scamp- some one told us that when the camper is not in use we are to jack the wheels off the ground, IS THIS TRUE OR NECESSARY .
