Ahoy fellow Scamp owners, excited to join the club!
Just got myself a 13' Scamp from 1985, via a dealership in KY. Had it shipped out to me (took about 4 days) in CA.
Once I got around to inspecting the inside, I quickly discovered a mouse nest in the far front left corner of the bench/bunk. I am going to put in allure flooring and paint with Kilz, so I decided to rip out all the benches as well. I ended up finding 2 more mouse nets and Stuart Little himself (RIP).
I know that the axle comparisons between the Flexiride and Dexter axles have been done before; I've read several discussions online about this. But my poor old 16' needs a new axle soon and I'm still indecisive. My priority is long term value and reliability. I like the Flexiride for the adjustible bar angle. Having 42 degrees would be nice in the boonies. But the tension torsion construction makes me wonder about catastrophic failure. Has anyone ever had the rubber in these completely decouple from the torsion rod, so that the wheel suddenly goes vertical?
I ran across this in the online Scamp winterizing checklist: "Jack up the axle and block it up to take the weight off the suspension" (though this is not in my paper owner's manual).
Any suggestions on fixing fissures (photo 1) or pits (photo 4- front of trailer) in fiberglass? Also, I've removed the fridge so have open vents (photo 2), any body have experience sealing the vents? Photo 3 shows exposed rivets, also seen in photo 1, I am assuming these need to be sealed. Do you have suggestions on how I can do that myself?
I need to replace some rivets on our new to us 2010 16' when I change some rusted hardware. What do you do about the rat fur when the rivet body is drilled out? I also need to get at it to put a backup washer on the new rivet. Should I make a small incision with a razor.blade? Sorry if this has been addressed before. Thanks!
So trying to crank the landing legs on the Scamp 19 and I get no movement up or down. The gears and the rod that goes between the legs turns fine, but nothing is happening. Where do I look for the problem and how to repair. It did work fine when we brought it in, but is not working now.
A tree crashed down on my trailer and took out the right end of my awning. It seems no one has parts for a Catalina 2500. Anyone have or know where I can get the Right side end cap.
One way to prevent yellowing of exposed plastic parts is to simply spray paint them before installing them. Today's spray paints that are formulated for plastic are fantastic. if you use several light/thin coats the finish turns out amazing!
You can also paint existing parts that have already yellowed, simply mask around them and use a good primer (or paint with primer) to give the paint something to adhere to (I like the self etching primers myself [Duplicolor brand is my absolute favorite]).
