Quick Converter Question

Forums:

Hey all, I'm troubleshooting the 12V system on my 1996 16' and wanted to get some peace of mind from the experts on here.

All of my 12V appliances function well when boondocking. All fuses and connections are solid.

However, when on shore power, the battery fails to charge and 12V appliances cease functioning once the battery has lost adequate charge.

To test my Parallax 3240 converter/charger I disconnected the battery and plugged into shore power: my multimeter then indicates only a 12.8V charge to the battery and the rest of my 12V system.

How can you tell if the Gel Coat is gone?

Forums:

1987 Scamp 16 owner i got it from a guy who stored it outdoors in upper Michigan with no cover.  It has a lot of black dirt (mold?) on the top, sides look stained/dirty.  I'm in Cleveland, OH so it's cold here but a last week there was a day when it was 55 degrees out so i quickly cleaned her up.  I used Gel-Gloss RV Wash and Wax, it has great reviews online in many different places.  Link below.

Structural Shell Support

Forums:

I recently purchased a 1988 Scamp 16 Deluxe. There is floor rot beneath the bathroom and the door. I watched a few videos on youtube that involved removing the shell from the frame to fix the floor. I am not capable of doing such a repair. Does anyone have ideas on how to add support to the right and left side of the Scamp without a complete dismantling of the shell? Could I weld support brackets from the frame to help support the fiberglass sides? Again, I am capable of minor repairs but would have to hire someone to do a major repair and I do not want to go over budget on this Scamp.

The Saga of the door holdback.

Forums:

When we bought our scamp this spring, one item that I noticed was that the door hold back was pulling out of the door side. I figured easy peasy, just re-rivet it. Then I noticed how rusty the original one was, in the crevices and such. Well I'll just buy a beautiful new SS one from Scamp and rivet that on. I did and it was a thing of wonder, until I tried to use it the first time. The new one had a hook that sticks straight out where as the original has a 30* bend. So the new one wouldn't work in the original mounting holes.

Winterize or not? Between Winter Weekend Camps

Forums:

Hi, I got my Scamp (2020 13' Deluxe with Front Bathroom) last November and used it over the winter several times before I ever put any water in it.  Then, of course, over the summer months I used the various tanks, sink and toilet.  Now that winter is around the corner, I am curious if there is a way to continue using my little camper without winterizing.  I'm thinking of using those snow melters for walkways under my camper for those days in between the trips.  I could have them "warming" the underside while parked in my driveway.  I'm guessing the heat of usi

Scamp LED taillight install help!

Forums:

Hi all,

I'm making the swap from the OEM taillights on my 2001 13' Scamp to the LEDs they sell at the Scamp store.  I'm doing it for two reasons: they are apparently much brighter and because my left turn signal somehow pushes a little bit of power to the upper reverse lamp on the right side.  If you look at the diagram (attached), both reverse lamps are driven by the yellow lead but I can't for the life of me figure out why red lead (left turn signal) could have interplay there.

Scampfire

Forums:

We just picked up our 2013 Scamp 13 last weekend.  Its in great shape but has not been used much ever.  That said it needed some maintenance that had not been done in years. The heater would stay lit  so I cleaned out the intake which was full of mud from wasps and fixed that.  The water tank flame was not blue but a lazy orange so I cleaned that and now that works.  Fridge propane pilot would not stay lit so cleaned the burner.  Looking at the diagram, the burner jet may be missing.

Gray Water Tank Vent

Forums:

When our gray water tank gets about half full both the kitchen and Lavatory sinks start to drain slowly. This makes me wonder if the tank vent is working properly. Does anyone have an idea of how to check the vent? I am thinking of using an air compressor and back blowing through the vent into the empty tank with the drain open,  Any ideas or experience?
