propane fridge
I took a long time to figure out the best way to start the fridge, and even then it was not easy to start. If too much gas accumulates before the spark, it causes a big blast and the flame does not start. It is necessary to hold the button about 5, 10 seconds and then click the starter. The old fridge view port is not useful in daylight at all. Keep clicking the piezoelectric button and if no explosion happens, then it is most probably started. To confirm that the flame started, it is necessary to open the outside vent and feel the temperature of the stack.
An expensive, but a really good solution is to replace the fridge. Ours was not cooling well any more, so that is what we ended up doing. It was quite a project doing it myself, but on our last trip there was one less thing to worry about. The new refrigerators are much improved. If the fridge in your 1996 is original, its time might be up.

hold the gas primer for 10-30 seconds, mine is old and takes a while. they try and start it. if that doesn't work you might need to clean the area/lines they might be blocked with spider webs.

Same problem with the spark igniter. I've used a long butane lighter for years. When it runs out of butane, the spark is still a great stove lighter.
another thing, first light the stove and run it for a minute, this will pull the propane through the lines. then do the fridge procedure, i always do this to get the propane flowing.
