Modify front storage room to a dinette/desk in 13 footer

Hey, I have a '99 Scamp 13 with a front bathroom/storage room. No shower or installed toilet. It is currently just a privacy room for using the SaniPotty, plus has a medicine cabinet on the closet wall (curb side wall of the bathroom). Also has some user added electrical on the same wall as the medicine cabinet.

The dividing wall between the main trailer and the bathroom is actual 1/2" wood/particle board, not fiberglass as I believe they are in the newer models.

I use the trailer as a single person, and I'm looking for options for leaving the dinette in bed configuration full time, but would still like desk/table/sitting space available. All of the Mods that I've seen have involved converting a front bunk to a dinette. I would like to move the SaniPotty to be stored under the dinette/bed (privacy not an issue for a single person), and convert the bathroom into a desk/table area.

Has anyone done this already? I'm sue they must have. I'm looking for ideas/suggestions/examples of how it has worked out. Not at all opposed to a simple table/desk with a free standing chair. Perhaps a small desk chair - more comfortable than a rigid bench-type seat.

Since the current door swings out and covers the kitchen, I will consider removing it entirely, or converting it to a sliding door. Perhaps cutting the door opening larger into a simple arch to open the trailer up more.

I'm also assuming that the dividing wall contributes to roof structure, although the front bench models do not have a similar support.

Any thoughts or ideas? Any links to existing threads/articles that I have not found?

Thanks.

Front dinette/desk

I am quite sure others have done this.  Our 13' has the standard front bench.  I can share, based on experience, a couple of pertinent points: (1) the "dividing wall" is not a structural element; (2) the floor is raised (ca. 4") on both sides in the front (under our bench seat; probably behind your "dividing wall"; in the standard layout, that's where the porta-potti is located.

Did you ever modify your front?

Hi LyleB,  I have the same setup in an '01 Scamp, and was interested to hear if you've made this modification?

No, I did not make the

No, I did not make the described modification. I did purchase and installed a C-Head composting toilet in the privacy room. I also removed the dinette table and created a U-shaped sitting area. The section across the back was wide enough to use as a single bed. For a table I installed a Lagun swing arm boat table. Easy to move the table to various positions for work, very easy to get in and out of the seats, and opened the trailer up, making it appear much more spacious.

I have sold that trailer, and replaced it with a new 16 foot, layout #4. I've removed the screws from the sofa back so that I can lay it flat - that is my semi permanent bed. I could stii lift the back up and have the sofa again, if the need arose.

I also liked the composting toilet so much, I ordered the new Zcamp with the side shower, but no toilet. I installed another C-Head in this Scamp. I also enjoyed the dinette models on my first Scamp so much, that I did the same in this one. Everything is totally reversible if wanted (except not having the clventilnal  toilet). My advice, make the Scamp YOURS, you are the one using it. I'm currently part way through a two month trip to Florida from Michigan. The Scamp is working beautifully.

Hi LyleB,

Hi LyleB,

One of the SOI members commented to me about what you were looking to do. I did not have a bath model for my 13' Scamp, but none-the-less, modified the front couch/bunk into my executive desk and removed all dinette hardware to keep the back double bed as that, always. I am a single full-timer, so this conversion is the most efficient use of space I have developed.

You commented, "I'm also assuming that the dividing wall contributes to roof structure." No, it does not. From your following thread, it seems you've already made mods and switched trailers.

I'm just following up on what I've done 5 years ago, and still love the mod. A photo of my executive desk mod is on my Website: http://www.rvcompass.com/media.html

You also inquired about chairs. My chair is a combo of a mechanic's tray stool from Harbor Freight and a backed bar stool seat from Home Goods (that I further modified).

Sounds like you have dialed in your needs. Hope your thread and my post can help others with ideas.

Wow, that's gorgeous

Truly wonderful work there, Hidalgo! :) Anyone who hasn't clicked the link ought to take a look. Did you do the work yourself? Is there a story to be told?

Desk Mod

Thanks. The trailer carries many stories. Yes, I do all the work and modifications myself.
