We're new to Scamping - previously owned a lovely CampInn teardrop. Appreciate the information and insights on this Forum - thank you!
Advice on storage frustration: has anyone tried to enlarge the cabinet openings? Our Scamp 13 has a great deal of hard-to-access space in the vertical cabinets - lots of wasted space above the top edges of the doors. I don't see how to use it except by stacking things and removing them each time I hunt for something. I'm impressed with the instructions to build shelves with PVC pipe, but this doesn't seem to address the unused space at the top of the cabinet. I also think the hanging closet has an unnessarily deep threshold. Is there a structural reason that we couldn't cut the door openings a bit bigger and fit them with larger doors?
i turned my closet into a pantry. In doing so, I enlarged the opening about 2" wider are 12" taller. Then made a new door. Remember the outer wall is curved, so you don't get much extra space by opening up the top. I opened mine up down to just above the wheel well. Here is a link to a post of the project on the Scamp Campers group Facebook page. Let me know if it does not work for you and I will post the full modification here

If your camper is new enough that your doors are good, you can also make your openings bigger and then order new doors from Scamp, they come in differant sizes and will probably match what is in there. That is the plan my hubby has when we are ready to do that.We just have to get brave enough to start cutting on our 2015 scamp. We didnt think the prices were bad that they are charging from Scamp for the doors and they do make many differant sizes just in case your interested.Debs is awsome, but I think she was redoing the inside with new doors anyhow,so that would make a differance

Dick and Judy,
I am enclosing a link to a earlier post I made on SOI, and will also send you a few photos I took of my extra cabin cabinets I made after our trip to Alaska. These Scamps are great, small and cut but need to be designed with extra storage no matter what the engineers feel is sufficient. My modifications to our scamp will be the photos I send indivudially in this post. Hope this helps in making decision to enlarge your storage as you are truly confined in the original design.

Good Luck, another suggestion to make tight space more useable. Get Space Bags at Harbor Freight, put one weeks underclothes for the man in one bag, shrink it down and to the same for one weeks of womans underclothes. Then have one week in your cupboard to use until the end of week to stop and wash. Then just unshrink the ones in the bag in case you do not have washing facilities when you run out. Shrink down all clothing and bedding not needed daily. This will save much time. Two plates, two cups, two glasses, etc. to minimize kitchen items. Do not over carry items for others not traveling in your camper. Minimize for just the two of you. Let others bring their own lawn chairs etc.
Have fun this year.

Thank you, Garylee for the links --- sheer genius to see the improvements you've come up with! Appreciate everyone's advice here. We'll post details and photos once we're done with our storage modifications.
Sailing friends introduced us to the Boat Galley blog - www.boatgalley.com - many of those ideas will work in our Scamp, too.
