Water Leak - New Scamp

I'm not happy. Went to take the cushions out of the camper to get ready to cut the new gel mattress topper and........ found out that one cushion was wet. I was not expecting this at all with a brand new camper (4 weeks old). I removed the lids on top of the water tank and the lid for extra storage (next to the sink) and found 1/8" or more of water next to the wires etc...... It was raining yesterday for 4 or 5 hours. I tried to remove the pond of water from each side since the floor is wood, but I was unable to remove it all. Disappointed.

Well, got to get that water

Well, got to get that water dried uop as soon as possible.  The wood floor can withstand many instances of saturation, but you don't want it to sit.  new trailers go through a settling period after towing for the first time.  Seals get broken, openings can occur, very typical.  Look over every rivet and hole entry point in the shell, and try and figure out how it is getting in.  This happens with  90% of all new trailers.  Though if it was leaking to the point of puddles, you have a pretty serious problem.

2nd that... Yes, get all

2nd that... Yes, get all moisture out of it. Use a rag or paper towels and wring them out until you get it all. Then investigate, possibly using a garden hose and sprinkle on areas where you suspect the leak. Be patient and you will be happy when you know you solved this one.

I tried to get all the water

I tried to get all the water out, but this was unexpected. I used paper towels, but still wet. We don't have the time to "fix things", this is why we decided to buy a new camper. I'm glad that we were not camping under the rain.

Leaking Scamp

Sorry to hear this, not what you want to find on a new trailer.

This sounds identical to the leaking issue with a new 13 Scamp in Feb.

See if this is the culprit and how Scamp advised on the fix.  Also, give Scamp Trailers a call if you haven't already to start a warranty claim, etc.

I Would Have Called Scamp

I would have called Scamp and been more than "disappointed".  If this is the standard for Scamp where the owner does repairs just after picking up, just "no"!  We haven't had a fiberglass molded but 9 RVs of different types, and although they are on list of possibilities still, sometimes, I just wonder when I read posts about the new ones.   No one makes them like they used to, thus the reason "vintage" actually does retain value.  I would probably both call and email/write Scamp about the issues and keep it for my records, just in case you might need to make a point with them later.

One email and 4 calls

I sent an email last Thursday after I remove the water from the trailer and called three times on Friday and one today (Monday). Scamp didn't respond to the email, the first two calls on Friday were a waste of time because there were no answers or options provided. They transferred the call from one dept to another dept. The sales representative didn't even apologize for this mess. The third call on Friday went to a voicemail.  I called the warranty dept this morning to follow up, to get answer or options since they never call back on Friday or responded to my email. I spoke with "Micah". He told me that I have to take the trailer to a local RV shop for repairs. If the local RV shop does not take payments by phone then I have to pay and Scamp will reimburse me the cost.

I told him that this was ridiculous, a brand new camper (not even used, first trip was schedule for July 3) and we have to do all the coordination and take the trailer to a shop etc....  It will keep raining in FL and we don't have a covered area to park the camper. He told me that he will send me a cover since I might have to wait for the local RV shop appointment.

There is no sense of emergency, no follow up for Manufacture's defects or warranty issues. I told Micah, "Scamp does not care because I'm the one calling to ask for the warranty process, the steps, etc. If I don't call Scamp for the fourth time Scamp does not call me back to provide me the information or to assist me with this issue". He replied "we never said that we didn't care". If Scamp cares about this issue why I don't have an email to at least acknowledge that the email was received or a call to tell me that the only thing that you can do is to send me to a local RV Shop????. He didn't have an answer to that question. He didn't ask for damages due to the water leak or anything.

I told him that I feel like selling the Scamp because I don't want to hear anything about freaking Scamp. They have my money and we have a brand new camper to fix before the first trip that we might have to cancel.

sorry to hear

I hope you can get the issue fixed quickly. I do not think this is a common thing. We just got back from our first trip and it rained terribly for 4 of the 5 days  we even moved once  because the spot was flooded with 4 inches of water and our experience was very good  no water or even serious window sweating.  Finding the issue is the hard part then it is just a repair.

Make'n sure

None of us are there to look for the reason water was on the floor. There are many here that have logged a lot of hours in their Scamp and have experienced many mishaps of all types. The only time I had water issues was when I left the fan vent lid up and it rained while I was gone and another time when cleaning out the pump filter and didn't tighten the cap down properly. If the back window was opened or even cracked open a little, water will come in as well as the side windows if there is wind with the rain. I certainly hope you can find the source and get it resolved.

Update

We received the cover that Scamp sent us. The local shop “ General RV Center” was able to get in contact with Scamp to coordinate few things before giving us the appt.  We have an appointment to drop off the camper on Saturday morning. Based on my inspection the water came from the side windows. The windows were covered after the first rain event. I hope that they can find and fix the problem.
