Filling The Potable Water Tank

Tried to fill my potable water tank on my Scamp 13 today for the first time. A very slow process with water all over the place. Went to the hardware store and bought a straight garden hose size 1/4 turn valve, a female garden hose fitting with a 1/2 inch barb, one foot of 1/2 inch hose, and one clamp. Put it all together and cut the end of the hose at about a 45 degree angle. The hose should be thin walled and fairly soft to make the turn into the fill pipe. Attached this all to my RV grade hose. Pushed the end of the 1/2 inch hose into the fill port, turned the 1/4 turn valve open, and completely filled the water tank in 80 seconds. No fuss. No mess.

Filling water tank

Do any of you have trouble when filling with air trying to get out of the fill door as you fill your tank?  Air in the tank has to escape as you fill but there is no bleed off valve for this that I know of.  No big deal, I just fill slower with smaller hose to allow the air to get out but just curious if anyone else has this problem.  I use my tank often when traveling, hardly ever hook up the trailer to outside water, never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the outside spicket if we go out for the day, just to be safe from flooding.

I am looking for a "Lockable" water tank fill door to replace the water tank fill aparatus that comes with the scamp.  I refer to mine as a (Mini-Urinal) as it is at the right height for people to do stupid things to our waters when we are away etc.  It is the right height as the reason I call it this and a real nasty thought to think about.  Seems quite unsafe not to be able to protect your water resevoir tank.  Just my opinion as usual.  If I find something appropriate and lockable or if you do let me know and please consider to post here so all can benefit.

Gary Lee,

Gary Lee,

One of the first mod's to my Scamp was the water fill.  I did not like the fill cap nor the fact that my fresh water was not locked.  I simply purchased a basic locking water fill and installed it.  I don't remember but the size is roughly 6 x 6 inches.  I thought the curvature of the Scamp would give me heart burn but it didn't.  I used a little plumbers putty to fill the gap and then sealed it all with caulk.   Because the back portion of the water fill goes inside the Scamp I needed to cut a slight little piece out of the wood frame that holds the bench seat.  The blue tape in the picture is the area it would take to change the tail light to an LED light like Casita puts on their trailers.   I'm still contemplating that mod as that would be a big big cut in the hull.

Replacement Bulbs

Joy

Have you looked into replacement LED bulbs for your tails ?  That's what I did. They are red LED and super bright so you can actually see them during the day

Red bulbs

Deb, Yes I have considered that.  I like the looks of the lights on the Casita's but one thing that would also need to be added is a license plate light which is another hole in the trailer.   Several reasons I've put that project off.  I'm leaning more and more to just getting a red blub.

Do you have back up lights on your Scamp??

Say are you coming to Quincy??  As you know family issues stopped me from going to the Pine Grove gathering.  Hopefully I'll see you in Quincy.  Then I'll take a look at your setup.

No backups

Hi Joy

I don't have backups but I don't need them. I always arrive in light of day. I have the older round tails, which I like. Not sure what the Casita tails look like, but now I'm curious

I will be at Quincy!  Looking forward to meeting you!

LED Tail Lights

Here is a link to a previous post on LED tail lights. I ordered the ones in the post link for the Escape, but still haven't tried them in a Scamp.

http://www.scampcamper.com/forums/tail-lights-and-running-lights

The one key on eTrailer was they do have to be red LED to work properly.
