the scamp heater doesn't use a lot of propane, i was camping in 32 degree weather for 4 days and 4 nights with the heater running continuously, i used 1 full tank of propane. loud? again i don't experience that, the ambient noise is helpful to keeping everyone asleep and hiding the noisy neighbors (if there are some). i love the stock scamp heater.
Great info! Thank you .........can I ask how you keep the battery going for that length of time?
Do you charge it while driving, or use a solar panel? I am also wondering if, in a pinch, I can hook up the trailer to the vehicle and charge the battery for an hour or so while eating dinner, etc, before bed. Would that charge it enough for a night's use of the heater?
i was hooked up to electric during that time, my apologies i didn't realize this was in regards to boondocking. yeah solar or another battery might be a good idea. if you're not in the camper during the day just shutting off the furnace/other electronics/lights/water pump will probably save you some juice too.
Based on the 91,500 Btu per gallon and 4.5 gal in a 20 lb tank you should get around 20 Hrs actual burn/run time from a completely full 20 lb tank this as a little conservative for safety reasons. We only have one tank on our 13 so if run low it would need to be taken to a fill station. This should be several days of heated comfort as long as the House battery is kept charged.
This is really helpful, Sunfish! I appreciate the advice and helping me understand venting.
I have worn earplugs at home, so I guess it's time to either wear them in the Scamp or get used to it where I don't hear it :)
