I purchased a gravity fed Berkey filter.  It sits on counter, but this removes everything including viruses, bacteria, even fluoride and arsenic, and I  can always use my fresh water tank for drinking without messing with the plumbing.  I didn't want another potential place for leaks to develop. Just another option .I used to work in water treatment, and Berkey  seems like a personal municipal water plant. Good luck!
