Redoing 1997 Scamp 5th Wheel Deluxe

I've started on the back to front, top to bottom makeover on our new to us 1997 Scamp 5th Wheel Deluxe. I've never take on a Scamp 5th Wheel so I'm eager to dig in. Probably, will have lots of questions for 5th Wheel owners as I go.

Starting the project by removing the rear dinette - table and rear bench seats to expose the flooring and mechanicals in the back.

Tore out the carpet to the kitchen to prep for the new Allure flooring and start cleaning the rat fur. Removed all the onboard water tank and pump, will replace the pump and replumb tank. I'm going to take this on in sections, starting with the back and when it is put back together, I'll move to the kitchen, then the upper bedroom and lastly the bath. The exterior I'm doing throughout. Already wire brushed and painted the rear bumper, and started replacing the snap caps (none were in existence).

So far, I have discovered one original assembly issue that I will be correcting. On the benches the oak trim piece that serves as the bed support is put on the bench with long deck screws which protrude quite a ways into the storage area under the benches. Not only does this not provide the best type of attachement for strength to support the bed, but someone could get their hand seriously injured while rooting around in the storage area. My screws are a bit rusty as well which would require an examination for the last tetanus booster. frown  I'll be redoing those with SS Bolts, Nuts, and large backing washers which will take care of all those issues.

During my last flight physical June of 2014, doctor asked how, long had it been since a tetanus shot. I said I could not remember, so he gave me one! All set!

Painting-Rebuilding the Benches

Have both benches in the garage and the first step was to remove the oak trim strip that has all the long, dangerous deck screws. Next, sand and paint (3 Coats) with Zinsser Perma White Mold/Mildew sealing primer. Looks way better than the brown paint that was on it.

I have the SS Bolts, nuts and washers and as soon as I use some wood restorer on the trim strips I'll be putting those back on the benches properly. The previous owner had torn off all the rat fur on the front face of the benches, so I found an oak laminate flooring at the Depot that I'm going to reface the benches with. Since it's a Deluxe 5er it should really pop against the new flooring. We found an Allure Vinyl Plank tile pattern that should look awesome with the oak interior.  http://www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMASTER-Allure-12-in-x-36-in-Ashlar-Res...

Greg, you sure have talented

Greg, you sure have talented hands to dig into such projects with great confidence! Seems now you have the entire collection of Scamp offerings! Great job on the 13, and now seems the 5th wheel will come out just as nice.

Missing a 16

Thanks, Doug. Although there are quite a number of SOI Members that do excellent work on these little gems that I try and emulate when I can. wink

I do camp quite a bit in the trailers, but half the hobby for me is restoring the older Scamps, etc. I have done 2 - 13's and now working on the 19, but I haven't done a 16 yet.

Wait till you see the flooring and the liquid granite countertops that are going in this one!

Prep and Cleaning Rear Dinette

We completed the steam clean of the rat fur and painted the decking with Zinsser's Perma-White Sealing primer before we start installing the new Allure flooring. Should start flooring the rear dinette area this week. You can see the before pic of this area in post #1 above.

Continuing on the exterior snap cap replacements, added a new battery, and removing all the interior cabinet doors to restore the wood and add new hardware. I'll have some pics of the wood restoration and the awesome product we're using soon.

Has anyone had to get parts for their Catalina 2500 Awning? If you have a good source for that I'd appreciate it.
