"Rat Fur" Wall Covering - Is It Neccessary?

We have ordered our 13' Scamp, due to be delivered in August 2017.  My questions are:  Does the rat fur have a purpose?  Is it necessary?  I see that some people remove it, but is it an option to have the company NOT install it?  My husband and I are wondering why it is installed.

(Please tell us something that ugly has to serve a purpose....)

Rat Fur

A liner is necessary as the interior of the fiberglass and insulation layer would be unattractive, plus one less layer of liner to contribute to insulation. I hear what you're saying, but doubtful that Scamp would not put the liner in at build or that you would really want that on a brand new trailer. From experience, I can say the rat fur is extremely durable and can be steamed cleaned very successfully over the years.

Some folks have replaced the liner on old trailers, but it's not a job for the faint of heart. If one did take it on, most any headliner materials can be looked at. The original Scamps up until about 1982 had what we call Elephant Hide prior to Scamp going to the Rat Fur. The Elephant Hide was paintable and could be restored quite nicely if it wasn't torn.

If you do ask Scamp about leaving it out, we'd be interested in hearing their response.
