Question before ordering Scamp 13

Hey folks,

I'm 6 months out from placing an order for a Scamp 13 deluxe with the extra large bed. A furnace and air-conditioning are on my list of wants. I'm not getting a bathroom and am pondering the value of a small sink. I want to camp from April through November and worry about frozen pipes in the sink. Here's my list of rookie questions...

Is there a danger of frozen water pipes, or is everything in the heated space? Is there a gray water tank from the sink or does it just drain to the outside from some type of hose?

Can a Scamp be ordered with LED lights? Which bulbs can be swapped for LEDs?

My tow vehicle is a 2016 Subaru Outback. It has a 4-pin wiring plug. How big of an issue is it to add the wiring for electronic brakes?

Can the wiring be added for a 12-volt aftermarket radio (think car stereo)? I have no interest in a TV but I need my Wisconsin Public Radio. I also want a heads up on bad weather. Does the fiberglass or insulation get in the way of radio signals? I could get a nice portable radio but I want to look into a built-in also. It would have to be awesome to give up cabinet space, but a portable takes up counter space. It would need to be 12-volt because I plan to be off grid often.

Thanks for listening to my random questions. Clearly I am not encumbered by linear thought processes!

scamp 13 Deluxe

Prairieboy,

My wife and I have a new 13 deluxe with a front dinette and large bed on order.  We  are intend on doing sub freezing traveling and camping.  Our plan is to use the hand pump with a 4 gallon water tank that we can shift to the tow vehicle to keep it from freezing while driving.  It is my understanding that the hand pumps are self draining and self priming.  We have not ordered a grey water tank, sink water flows to the ground.  We will carry a gallon of RV antifreeze with us. We will pour some of the antifreeze down the sink to prevent the sink trap from freezing.  We intend to keep life simple.

I would recommend brakes on the trailer and a brake controller for the tow vehicle.  Just us the seven pin plug that is standard on the Scamp.  I'd think that you would want their accessory furnace and the Fantastic Fan for good measures.

I wouldn't think that the fiberglass and cell insulation would impede radio signals.

6 Months

Are you going to wait 6 months to order? If you do you will wait another several months before you get it and may not have it for next summer. Ask the Subaru dealer if your car is pre wired for a controller or if they could install one. Scamp will put a 12v plug in for you. Worry about the bulb when you get it so you don't get the wrong type.

Good questions.

Subie install

Order your brake controller and brake wiring kit from E trailer. The car is not pre-wired for brakes. I recommend a P-2 or 3 controller. The only issue you may have is the wire color code for the wire to tie into at your brake pedal. Their tech staff can help you with that. Lot's of good You Tubes on the install.

Everything is NOT in the heated space and the graywater tank is an option you can order.

We swapped out the lights ourselves. http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f95/replaced-lamps-with-leds-65947.html

We had a local place install the brake controller and 7-pin hookup.  I think it cost less than $200 total.

You can have Scamp add a 12-volt outlet pretty much anywhere or you can run your own wires.
