In April of 2013, I pressed the paso starter for the catalytic heater and my trailer exploded. The cause was a long term stress crack in the copper tubing where it entered the trailer. The original factory tubing clamp was placed in a position that crimped the entry point of the tubing at approximately 90 degrees.
Please learn from my experience and check for this obvious problem in early model Scamps. The new Scamps have rubber hoses from propane bottle to trailer body.
Due to this explosion, I was burned on 40% of my body and I spent one month in a burn unit and 1 year in rehab.
Therefore, I now turn the propane bottle OFF when not in use and I installed an explosive gas detector inside the trailer; which only draws .08 amps.
See attached pictures of copper tubing.
Sorry to hear about your experience but thanks for posting your warning. The earlier Scamps are prone to work harden the rigid copper lines where the lines enter the trailer. Scamp now uses a bulkhead fitting on the shell and use flexible lines outside and rigid lines inside. I have used these fittings on older trailers. The bulkheads fitting is not easy to find. Even though not listed on the Scamp website they do sell the fitting if you call them.
I also inspect where the gas lines are clamped to the floor I have seen corrosion at these points. It's a good Idea to replace the clamps with copper or heavy duty plastic clamps.
