Power cord maintenance

In order to keep the mud/dirt, moisture etc out of the power cord storage area I always slide the cord thru a rag as I push the cord into the cord port in the side of the Scamp.

I have installed a piece of plywood to partition off the cord and electrical stuff under the bench on the left side of the Lil Critter in order to use the rest of the compartment for storage.

After a couple years of use, I found that the cord had occasionally started getting a wrap around itself inside of the storage compartment and being hard or even impossible to get out of the cord port.  One day while cleaning the cord with soap and water between trips, (I do spray a short piece of the cord with insecticide to keep creepy crawlies from using the cord for a highway into the trailer and I fuss about bad stuff building up inside of the storage area.) it dawned on me that the cord had become no longer slick.  I sprayed the length of the cord with Pledge furniture polish to make its surface slippery again.  I have not had a jam up of the cord since doing that over seven years ago!!!

I'll bet a little silicone

I'll bet a little silicone spray would be as good if not better. I use silicone spray on many rubber surfaces such as the door seals in my vehicle to keep it supple and retard deterioration. The smell might not be as pleasant however.  Has anyone tried silicone?
