Well that's a pretty neat

Well that's a pretty neat little gray water holding tank, for those of you that don't have an actual gray water holding tank.

Great idea.

AC reenforcement is NOT standard

I just wanted to clarify that getting AC reenforcement is not a standard feature but does not cost you anything if you ask for it.  You will lose your escape hatch.  If you do not get it, it cannot be added later if you want AC.

I highly recommend the extra porch light over the hitch, the awning and trailer brakes.

Scamp Roofs

Oh but you are wrong friend. I just got, back from the factory and was informed ALL Scamps now are made with the reinforced top, and have been for some time now. No additional cost as they are now made that way and for some time now. I saw them first hand in production and right out of the molds! All are now made to support a AC unit.

August 2014

As of exactly a year ago, when I got mine fresh from the factory, you had to ask.  I stand corrected.

Just to be safe

I would definitely ask and confirm if you aren't getting A/C that it is roof A/C ready. Roof Support, power run, etc. Never hurts to double check. Myself, I definitely would want a fantastic fan or a standard 14" vent installed there and not the Escape Hatch if I didn't get A/C. Those Escape hatch vents are very difficult sizes to find and you usually have no choice but to order replacement lids, vents, etc. from Scamp.

Update:

Here is the verbiage from the Scamp Trailers site on A/C

All 5th wheel Scamps can use roof air conditioners. Older 5th wheels may require the oak reinforcement supports (can be purchased from the Scamp parts department). On most 16 foot Scamps from the year 2000 the roof has been supported for the roof air. On 16 foot Scamps prior to this year most didn't have the roof air support. To check for support find the 120 volt wire tucked behind the fabric strip. This wire will be on the same side of the trailer as the 120 panel with the circuit breakers. Any trailers with the wire and support in the roof can have the roof air added. Thirteen foot Scamp trailers don't have the roof air support unless there is already a roof air installed or if the original buyer requested that the trailer be built that way. Also most trailers with a power vent in the roof air spot won't have supported roofs. Most 16 and 13 foot trailers prior to 2000 used a side air conditioner in the lower part of the closet by the door. This air conditioner is no longer available.

Pertinent Points: 13 Scamps will not have A/C roof support unless there is an existing factory mounted A/C or A/C roof support was added as a request during build. 16's may be spotty, but the existence of the 120v wire is the tell if there isn't existing factory mounted A/C. Remember, just because you have a roof mount A/C, if it wasn't installed by the factory it doesn't necessarily mean it has the correct support. surprise

Since you have a 13 Scamp, Scamphound, your original comment was correct.

I will concur that the

I will concur that the "indispensable" options depend on how you want to use your Scamp.  It also depends on what you are using now.  We upgraded from a 3-person backpacking tent to a 13' Scamp and it is incredibly spacious and convenient compared to the tent!  We THOUGHT we would want a bathroom until we made a factory visit and saw both configurations.  In a 13' the bathroom takes up WAY too much space and you lose the picture window, so we went with the front bunk configuration and that has worked out great as it makes a place to sit while the other person is still in bed and also a place to get out of the way.  We did not get A/C, but did order the roof reinforcement, which was NOT standard a year ago, but was free.  We also did not get a heater, opting instead for a ceramic heater.  Both decisions have been good so far.  We just finished a trip through Kentucky and Tennessee with 90 degree temps, but since it cooled into the 60s - 70s at night and the Fantastic Fan does such a great job of drawing air into the trailer, we were plenty comfortable.  We were told that adding the propane furnace later would cost just $50 more than an original install.  We also did not spring for the $900 awning due to cost and the fact that it looks out of proportion to the trailer.  We will get a pop-up dining fly if we decide we want the outdoor space.

Things we got that have been wonderful:  Fantastic Fan, vinyl floor (cannot imagine dealing with the standard carpeting!), lots of extra 12v and 120v outlets, backsplash (rat fur and cooking residue did not sound like a good combo), greywater tank, 12v pump, larger battery, "standard" option package, refrigerator, electric brakes (required for our Subaru towing specs), 3 extra reading lights, 54" bed, rear side cabinets and front cabinet,

We got most options that go

We got most options that go nicely with shore power.  However ya never know when you want to be somewhere where power is not available.  So hence the propane HWH, the propane furnace, stovetop, the waste tanks, fantastic fan, shower/potty room/ pumps. All this does not require 120 AC, but you do need a good battery to run the 12 volt side of things. The size of our campers is about 3 days and then adjustments will have to be made to replenish. So i wont freeze in the cold, die in the heat, starve, or stink. That what i worked on when i ordered my scamp.  Carl

Scamp Battery

We got our Scamp battery at Manards. We got a deep cycle group 27 battery for $84.95! Yes, spring time is the time to shop for such batteries. They put them on sale for guys that fish. We got me group 27 battery and it holds up well for several days of 12 volt needs.

Welcome!

I have a 2012 13 Scamp and love it!  I bought it used and it had several options that I have enjoyed having.  Items that were options: AC (good to have in case), outside 110 plug, extra 110 plug by bed, awning (I could live without) 2 propane tanks (very good when not using electric) 2 reading lights, shower and toilet (wouldn't be without), electric brakes, furnace both elec. and propane, I would like to have vinyl floor and the bigger bed.  Good luck, try shopping for a good used Scamp.  yes

Our Scamp is now 1 year old

Our Scamp is now 1 year old to us. It came with most of what we desired in a new Scamp. AC, heater, awning (replaced), 2 LP tanks, external AC outlet, side dinette, potty and shower, Fantastic Fan, screen door. A trip to the factory made it a supreme Scamp!
