Low Cost Battery Lock

Here is a good (low cost) solution for locking up your battery:

   https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-8417D-Adjustable-Diameter/dp/B000XTPNZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491962055&sr=8-1&keywords=master+lock+cable+bike+lock

Simply wrap this twice around your battery box and all is secure !!!

Two Birds One Lock

I solved the battery theft issue by locking the two propane tanks.

Confused?

Athearn2, I'm confused. I don't have my Scamp yet but how does locking the propane containers fix the battery theft problem? Are the propane tanks connected to the batter?

Locked Propane Tanks

Sorry for the confusion Spokane Sue! It is just that with the dual propane tanks in place it would be very difficult to remove the battery. So, by locking the tanks in place the battery is also protected. Nothing is theft proof but I hope to at least make battery theft difficult.

Hoping...

Athern2, I was hoping this might explain it because I think locking the propane looks easier and I've heard chains, depending on the type, are usually harder to cut through than cables (at least in the bicycling world they are). So your picture looked more doable for me. Thanks for posting and then clarifying!

Propane Tanks

The propane tanks are very stealable too. Hence the "Two Birds One Lock" title. Easy to do this theft deterrent. Just drill one hole in each end of the "wing nut" that holds the tanks down. (Best to take it off the tanks and drill the holes with it in a vice or at least where you can hold it firmly.) Drill both ends of the "wing nut" because the "wing nut" position may change with different tanks, tightness, etc. Then install a chain or cable with lock as shown in the picture.

We live in Maine but we plan to visit my brother in Missoula Mt. with our Scamp (2015 Std. bunk bed/big bed) this summer . Just a hop, skip, jump from Spokane!

Hop, Skip, Jump...

Athearn2, Thanks for the specifics. I have a neighbor, Gary, who is retired and he loves having things to do. He and his lady Barb advised me on my options and he's excited to help me do some of the things I would like to do but do not have the tools or abilities for. I bet he's going to love this!

Yell, if you would like to meet up over in Missoula. I would love to see your scamp -- you have what I'm getting and I'm getting mine without ever having physically seen a Scamp before!

Hoping your adventures are wonderful,
Sue
