Hi everybody,
As you know, the standard doors are sawdust and glue with a laminated surface; and the screws holding the hinges to the doors are necessarily extremely short. Like 1/4" of threads, maybe 5/16". So somebody (all right, it was the Dog) was hurrying me up in the dark the other day and I accidentally leaned on the top of the door that's under the front settee on my 13' Standard, and the top hinge screws all pulled out of the door.
What material would you recommend for repair? I have Rock Putty, but have also thought about filling the holes with 2-part epoxy, and then re-drilling them. Your thoughts/experience?
Thanks,
Joan
Have you thought about replacing the screw with nuts, bolts, and a washer?
Yeah, I did. But it would be... comparatively ugly. I think that would be a last resort.
Actually, I bought some half-inch veneered plywood yesterday, with the object of making all-new cupboard doors for the whole trailer. I'm aiming at a Scandinavian theme, with rosemaling on all those doors. I have a knowledgeable painter in mind. If I ever have to sell this Scamp, I can keep the art and put the original doors back on - if I can make a secure repair on the one that's damaged. I'm leaning toward JB weld epoxy, right now, but sure waiting for anybody else's experience or ideas.
I take some good wood glue and a toothpick. Fill the hole with wood glue, jam the tooth pick in, let it all dry and shave the extra tpick off with a razor cutter and reattach your hinge.

Great idea! One is simply adding more of the original material. What could be better. Thanks.
