Ford Fusion as a tow vehicle??

So, is it realistic to even consider a 2L ecoboost 2015/2016 Ford Fusion as a tow vehicle for a Scamp 13?  The Fusion with the larger engine is rated to tow 2K lbs.  Any real-world reports on it?  We are grappling with the decision of what late model used car to replace our focus with that will allow towing in the future.

Towing

The Ford Fusion 2.0 is really marginal for towing. Can it be done, probably with extra care, but if you are changing vehicles and towing is in your future, why not get a vehicle that is rated at least 3500 tow capacity. There are so many good choices of vehicles with 3500 and 5000 lb towing capacities, where down the road you could even pull a 16 Scamp.

towing

That is unfortunate, since I really find the Fusion (we rented one for a cross-country trip) to be very comfortable and economical on long hauls.  I am generally concerned about pushing the maximum tow limit on any vehicle, though.

Tow Vehicles

My choice for a tow vehicle for any of the Scamps would be one of the small pick-up trucks. Frontier, Tacoma, Colorado, others. They may ride a little harder than the Fusion but I don't consider that a negative. They are sturdy, have all the modern gadgets, can carry a lot of stuff, they have big mirrors, and because you sit higher the visibility is better. If you are dead set on getting a Ford the Ranger would be great but Ford has discontinued the Ranger so you would have to get a used one. My 2006 Frontier with the 2.5 four cylinder engine averaged 20 MPG on our 5,000+ mile trip last spring towing our Scamp 13. Good luck.

Don't discount the Ford Edge

Don't discount the Ford Edge 6 cylinder In all of them. If you can find what bought, the 2012'Ford Escape 6 cylinder, the last year they offered. Both will pull the 13 or 16. We did add the transmission cooler. Both boast a 3500 lb. tow weight, and get about 19 mpg while towing.
