Flashing brake lights

People have recommended the flashing brake light module on their Scamp. I would put it on the upper lights of a four-light system. It looks to me that the turn signals and stop lights must be separate lamps for this to work and there for will not work on the Scamp.

Which module is the correct one for this application? Has anyone installed this and still had the turn signals work? I cannot find any laws in my state that regulate this.

Flashing brake light Kahteh reply

If it’s the same bulb for Stop and turn signal (same filament) it will not work as the module can not detect where the 12V to power the module comes from.

Sorry

NOTE: I am still working with them to get something that will work. Like using some module (or two) made for something else.

Flashing Brake Light

Well, here I am posting to myself again, I will have flashing lights on my Scamp, just not in the near future. Giving up for today.

MY QUESTION:

What if I used 2 Blinking Smart Stop (Delay) Third Brake Light Module Item Number: 301-2003-11, one at each lamp.

Could I get the desired effect?

TNX  Kenny

THEIR ANSWER:

If the bulb uses the same filament for both using separate modules is not going to make any difference to the same  problem the only way you could do it is to put a separate brake light and wire on the trailer from the connector on the trailer hook up.?.

Flashing Brake Lights

Okay, first, the flashing brake light modules will only work with LED brake lights (the Incandescent bulbs take too long to light up).

Here is how I installed my flashing brake lights...

I have two brake/turn/tail lights on each side of the trailer (all Barkman LED lights).

I installed a flasher module on both the right and left side upper brake/turn lights (two separate flasher modules).

The bottom brake/turn/tail lights are wired as normal.

So here is what I get when braking or turning...

When I brake, the bottom lights light up and stay lit up--the top lights flash rapidly for 4-5 seconds and then they stay lit with a solid red brake light.

When I use the turn signals (because of the on/off nature of the turn signal) the bottom light flashes at a normal rate--the top light continues to flash rapidly until the turn signal is canceled.

When I use the 4-way flashers, the bottom two lights flash in unison with the Tow Vehicle, while the top two lights continue to flash rapidly (again, because of the intermittent nature of the 4-way flashers.) I like the effect of having the top two lights flash rapidly while the bottom two lights flash slower. It looks like a police car is pulled off on the side of the road.

All 4 tail lights work as normal.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Led Strobe Controller

The exact brand I purchased is not currently available on Amazon.

However, if you search Amazon for "Strobe controller for LED stop light" you will find several options available, some are even packaged in pairs.

As far as using the strobes on incandescent lights; I wouldn't do it. The LED lights light up instantaneously and they are instantly at full brightness. The incandescent bulbs need time to heat up and by the time they are heated up the flasher needs to turn itself off for the next flash.

I first saw these flashing Brake/Tail lights on a Fire Truck I was sitting behind in traffic, instantly, I knew I wanted to add this feature to the camper. I also intend to install the flasher module on the "Third" brake light on the Van. I will be installing this upgrade soon, along with LED bulbs for the third brake light ( I might also install a switch to turn off the third brake light for whenever I am towing at night ).

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Brake Lights

Some of these brake flash modules indicate they do both LED and incadescent.  I'd recommend adding LED lights as a part of this project since that change adds better visibility in and of itself. I'd also put most of the mod into what type of lights to add to increase visibility and the best location to add them, then look at the flash module option.

The pic below is the best rear light configuration for visibility I've had on any of my trailers to date. The vertical lights and a light bar over the top of the window could be done on the rear of a Scamp without too much trouble.
