Cracks around door hinge

Hey group!

Over the weekend, I discovered a 1" long hair line crack above the upper door hinge in the exterior of my week old Scamp.  I moved it to the backyard of my building Monday morning for storage until a trip this weekend.  Well, I just looked and there are a few more hairline cracks going in different directions from the same door hinge.  They are very thin and only noticeable upon close inspection.

Is this normal?  Cause for concern?  I've contacted Evelands with photos but have yet to hear back.

Here's a photo I took this

Here's a photo I took this morning.  With resizing, I'm not sure you can even see 'em, but here's the new door hinges!  There's a 1" crack above the hinge and a crack to the right.

door hinges

were these hinges standard on your new scamp from the factory? Or did you have them put on later at an extra cost?  I have a 16 ft scamp on order. thanks

Wow! Not good, I would say. I

Wow! Not good, I would say. I imagine it is just a crack in the gelcoat, not a structural issue, but still, a week old - not right.

This is why Scamp is pretty resistant to changing things once they have a system/product that works for them, At least I imagine it is a reason why.

I've heard back from Scamp.

I've heard back from Scamp.  They'll fix the gelcoat or pay to have it fixed locally, my only question is wont this happen again?  I've only opened and closed the door a few times!

Cracked gelcoat aside, I'm planning on doing some boondocking and enjoying my new camper this weekend in Southern MO :)

Gel Coat Cracks

Not normal this soon and glad Scamp is covering the repair for you. Gel cracks can occur for a variety of reasons from incorrect mixing and application of the gelcoat to impact to stress. Once you get the repairs done, keep a close eye on both hinge areas that the new hinge system isn’t causing stress points. More than likely, it won’t reoccur after the gelcoat repairs. I’d recommend a marine shop to do the work if Scamp approves.

They should stay with what works plus I like the look of the old style hinges more.

Have Scamp will travel !

door hinge cracked

I'm wondering how your gel coat repair went and whether or not it's reappeared?  I noticed hairline gel coat cracks above the upper door hinge on my 13' 2018 door. Not only gel coat cracks, but the hinge itself is cracked. I obviously need to replace the hinge, but I'm wondering whether or not I should also have the gel coat dealt with.
