Hello All,
grinding, priming and painting my 16ft Scamp’s frame end to end. Thinking about using truck bed paint with hardeners because I think that’ll hold up better than anything else against gravel and other flying objects. Anyone else done this? Looking for suggestions on products or any advice really. I’m also considering painting the plywood while I’m down there. Is there any reason that’s a bad idea?
thanks in advance!
There is a product for steel called POR 15 tough as nails and cures instead of dries. ( Do not get it on your hands. You will be stained black for a long time. Clean and Brush it on and let it set up. Even tolerant of some rust. Do some research but I have done several car trailers and awesome. Not cheap and not UV tolerant so it will grey over time.

POR-15 is like iron, extra hardeners make all the difference. As for the plywood...oil base primer, oil base paint...always. If you are looking for a clear coat on plywood only serious marine spar varnishes are worth your time. And water based ipn coating like Varathane while awesome on your wood floors won't hold up to the elements as long as a good marine spar varish.

Thanks to you both for your input. I took you advice and went with the POR 15. No top coat for the frame below the trailer and top coat for the tongue and bumper. Hoping this is a once every 15 years kind of job
