We are in the process of buying a 2002 scamp standard everything appears to be in very good shape. The main problem is no furnace and we don't always camp where we can run a cube heater. Is it possible to add a furnace that would match the original installation? Our only other concern is how and how well are they insulated. Finally is there anything we should be looking for in this model year other than the obvious? Thanks in advance Kip

I'm not sure what model trailer you have but adding a furnace in the origional location should be no major problem. When a furnace is not installed Scamp sometimes puts a door in that location, you may have to get a piece of metal and make a front trimplate to cover part of the door opening. Most people replace their furnaces with the Atwood Everest 12K it is the quietest and draws the least current of similar models. Sometimes in the trailer they put in a 4 way fitting on the gas line for all the appliances and your furnace fitting may be just capped off. Worse case just add a T in the gas line. You will have to run a 12vdc circuit to the furnace as well as a thermostat. ALL LP GAS WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE BY A CERTIFIED GAS MAINT, PRO.
Some people install a Wave 3 or 6 LP heater which requires no 12VDC. Read all warnings on this unit.

Our 1974 13' Scamp originally had a furnace which we recently removed, because we did no think it safe, for two reasons: (1) it was 40 years of age!; (2) it was located on the end of the kitchen cabinet adjacent to the gaucho bed.
If we were to install a new furnace, we would locate it farther from the bed. It always concerned us that sheets and blankets could touch the funace at night; if more than a "touch," could they not heat up and catch fire?
