my new-to-me 13 footer doesn't seem to have a vin. My buddy out in New Mexico never registered it after he bought as it was on private land at all times.I live in Texas . any one have any thoughts? I have a bill of sale, not like any one is trying to cheat me or the previous owner, they are just a bit lax out out there about plates and things.

how to register for license plate with out vin
Have you wire brushed the area on the tongue wher the vin lives? It is usually painted over and will reappear. Do you have the vin on any paperwork? AZ doesn't require the trailer to be inspected to register it, but they do need the vin to check it isn't reported stolen. If you can't come up with the vin the tx code below outlines a procedure to have it inspected and ownership documented, then they will issue a new vin to attach.
TX Administrative Code DMV
Excerpt from Code on VIN
It does state that tx registration must occur within 30 days of transfer, so if it has gone beyond that I'm sure they'll assess some penalty.

While you are reading the TX DMV Codes, look for a section titled "Exempt Vehicles (or similar).
Some states exempt trailers below a certain weight and/or manufacture prior to a certain date.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
Happy Scamping !!!
PS: Since you are transferring the Scamp from NM, Texas may be used to dealing with un-registered trailers from NM.
It sure wouldn't hurt to ask the question.
As Always,
Happy Scamping !!!
