Making progress on

Making progress on reinforcements for the Timbren axle-less suspension mounting points.

Cut off the old axle, wire brushed the frame, coated in rust converter, put on a few coats of paint. Bolted on the two pieces of angle iron on each side and have installed two of the four cross pieces I'm adding as reinforcement. The suspension is going to have the optional crossmember bolted to it so there'll be a 2x3 1/4" tube in addition to these four 1x3 1/8" tubes to take the flex from the timbren system. The angle iron at the side has been bolted on with 1/2" all-thread, the cross pieces with 3/8". The timbren system itself will be mounted with 5/8" grade 8 bolts, but thats another battle still to come.

The all-thread hasn't been cut down to size yet, as I'm waiting till everything is 100% correct to go back and put Loctite 271 on all the nuts and then trim as necessary. The outboard angle iron on each side will have to have the horizontal part cut so the timbrens can mount flush, but this will still be notably stronger even in those areas than the thin frame of the scamp was originally. This could have absolutely been welded instead of bolted, but I'm good with a drill and a wrench and don't happen to own a welder. More progress to follow.

I thought about welding too

I thought about welding too but if I need to adjust any I'm committed. Once I put the plates on I did have room for the bolts,  but I think I'm going to add some welds as well once I check for square in case I need to shim. The hard part is that I have the 13' on my lift  and I'm a little stuck on height due to the ceiling in the carport to get a stand to hold the the timbren in place. I had my son hold it in place while I marked it but my young strong son had a struggle. This was ok for the starting side but the other side has to be with in 1/8 so I need to figure out some kind of stand to hold it in place 48" off the ground.Lift jacks are

 too tall

Test fit of Timbrens

Been busy reinforcing the frame and dealing with working on this outside during questionable weather, but I got my first test fit on the timbren axle-less suspension today. Looking good so far, need to do some more coats of paint then its time to get to the nitty gritty measuring before the final mount.

Finished mounting

I finished the mounting. I installed the 2x2 cross member and after doing so , it's looks like it is essential on these scamp frames to get the cross support needed.looks good all I have left is to put the bearings on and then adjust the camber

i can't wait to get the wheels on and see how it looks lifted

I finished

I couldn't wait to get home from work and finish today. I set the camber with a few shims and then mounted the tires. I set it down from the lift onto the tires. Got some settlement creaking sounds on one side once down,it's dark now  so I'll lift it up and just check it once more before the road test. It looks great! The 6" lift is what it needed I'll say. The back end was so low to the ground that I could not use the stabilizing jacks and I even welded 2 wheels so when I backed it in the driveway it would help with the bottoming out. Now,it's level to the hitch and the back is high enough for the jacks with no more worry about bottoming out.ithe back must of raised much more. I'll put a tape on it when I take pictures. The wheels that the body would cover half now the full wheel is exposed. Right now I have a huge smile, I can't believe it

I can't wait to take pictures for everyone and take it on the Test drive!

Attempted test drive

Well it was almost perfect . I made it a block when I saw some smoke out he back from the wheels. I thought it was the bearings too tight,. Brought it back and up on the lift to find the drivers side tire rubbing on the interior body.. it's dark now and I will take another look over the weekend. It does look like I need a 1 1/2 additional  space from the frame. Seems the body is different the drivers side from the passenger side

So stay tuned

Next step

Interesting how this trailer is different on each side and not uniform. I call timbren and see if heathers is  iextension made

I spent $50 on amazon and ordered 1.5" wheel spacers, they will arrive in a few days.

once again stay tuned
