Just what I'd like to do!

@richfree ... this is exactly the modification I'd like to do with my 2000 13' Scamp.  I'm working on some maintenance and repairs hoping to hit the road in another 3-6 months for extended travel cross country.  I would much prefer to keep the back area setup as a bed and have the front bunk area modified as you have done it here.  By sabre saw, are you referring to an electric jigsaw as opposed to a sawzall/reciprocating saw?  I would assume the latter would be too rough/coarse a treatment.  I'm not sure I'm familiar with the materials you mentioned using for the modification, so will have to do some more research.  Very glad I found someone who had and accomplished the same vision.  If you have any further information/insights, I'd be glad to hear.  Thanks!

Another possibility for

Another possibility for seating at the table would be a pair of West Marine's High Backed Chairs.  I used them with the front table in my Escape 17 and found them comfortable.

Are you still happy with your conversion?

Was there any problem with structural integrity? Is there anything you would do differently now?

bunks to front dinette conversion

I'm getting a new 13' Scamp standard with bunks that I want to convert to a front dinette.  I have limited tools and not likely to do this job myself.  I've been looking around for someone who can do the work and I'm not having much luck.  Any suggestion for where to find the right person for the job? I already tried a local RV shop.  Thoughts?

Maybe someone who does boat

Maybe someone who does boat repairs/modifications?  Those guys know how to work with fiberglass at any rate.

I'm picking up our new Scamp 13 standard next week, and have also thought about maybe converting to a front dinette.  But in a couple of Airstreams I've had, the front couch worked great as a dinette with a couple of swing out tables.  I'll probably end up going that way.

boat shops

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm calling around to boat shops.  Many do the fiberglass, but not the cabinetry.  But, I'm hopeful.

@catdancing0531 and theremin

Especially if you're a single traveler in your Scamp 13, I would suggest you give consideration to a modification I ended up making instead of a customized front dinette.  I finally decided to install a Lagun table system on the front bunk which allows me to dedicate the rear dinette to a bed and allows me to have a table and seat for dining, computer work, writing, etc. at the front bench.  Given the proper dimensioned table top, this could very possibly work for two people.  I installed the base mount as close to the outside door as possible to retain as much bench seat when the table is mounted (removed when traveling).  If I was installing it for use by 2 people, I would move the mount over to the left by ~11 inches which would be next to the center compartment (where my porta-potty is stored).  My table top is 22 inches long.  With a slightly longer top, I think you could seat 2 people on the bench seat and comfortably dine.  Looking at the picture previously provided by richfree, I would guess his table top maybe about the same size as mine; perhaps a bit shorter.  Regardless, I'm very pleased with the installation I made, it was not difficult, and is very convenient without major modification to the front bench assembly.

front dinette conversion

That sounds like one good option, something to consider.  However, one of the things I wanted with the conversion was the cabinet space to the left of the dinette table.  I don't need the longer bench seat that would come with the bunk, the shorter love seat arrangement (when the table top is lowered) is fine for me.  That extra closet/storage space is something I'd like to have.

That's very similar to what I

That's very similar to what I had in my Airstreams, and it did indeed work very well.  Thanks!
