It’s my understanding that it is just a switch and lanyard. Pull the lanyard and the 12volts from the Scamp battery is applied to the brakes. I plan to do it but have not yet looked for a clean weather proof way to wire it. I'll just get a switch from one of the many dealers in my area.
This one has no charger for the battery in the box.(You might be able to get an optional charger.)
In reading various posts on the topic some utilized the trailers battery and others took a stricter view on what was required to satisfy legal requirements in having a separate battery. The cost is minimal and checking a 2nd battery isn't much trouble.
I doubt that the law can require a separate battery when a breakaway switch is not required. Scamp will not even put a breakaway switch on if you pay for it. I tried. Small trailers kill people also.
Here is some info I found on the web when I was doing my research. Not trying to start a long discussion on the topic but found it interesting to read.
My concern with breakaway on my 13 scamp is that there is only one 3/8th inch grade 5 bolt holding both safety chains. I'm sure one good sharp yank on that bolt by a 2,000 LB trailer would snap it off! I have replaced the original grade 5 bolt with a grade 8 bolt. I am trying to dream up a good way to attach the two chains separately. When I do I will post it. Also, I use shackles instead of the supplied "S" hooks to attach the safety chains to the TV. I just don't trust those "S" hooks to stay on!

Good selection, not expensive. The Tekonshah one should be a decent one.
