Water pump runs intermittently

Hello again.  When my pump is on, even with no water running, it regularly makes the "brrrrrmp" pump sound.  Just for a second.  Water pressure is fine, there's no leak, I'm mainly worried about the impact on the battery.  Another, possibly related, thing I notice is that, at night, when the pump runs, it dims the lights noticeably.  Is this normal?  Could I have a bad pump?  The trailer is a '99, but I just bought it recently, so I don't know the history.

Thanks,

Greg A

Leak

If the pump occasionally runs when switched on but not using water you have a leak somewhere, albeit a slow one. These can be hard to track. Start by looking to see if any of ur faucets/shower have a tiny drip occasionally, then work backward and redo all connections at the pump. Sometimes this can be a more annoying issue than a huge problem, but if the system were completely tight it would sit on all night and the pump will not do the repressurizing brrrp. If it's minor, I'd just switch the pump off till needed. Your pump is most likely ok, but the wet end could be a source of the problem.

As for the lights, sounds like the power for the pump is wired off your lights. This can be remedied, but too little info on your trailer electrical to offer a solution at the moment.

It would be nice if I could

It would be nice if I could just leave the pump on while I'm in camp.  The "brrrp" goes every few seconds, so if it's leak, I think it would be pretty obvious.  One person suggested that a possible pressure leak could be back through the pump if it's pretty old and worn.  I'm still learning...

As for the electrical, anything's possible.  A previous owner monkeyed with the wiring quite a bit.  I can probably track that down, though.  Thanks for the tip.
