I'm looking at purchasing a 13 ft Scamp Deluxe. My vehicle has a 2000 pound towing limit. After speaking with a Scamp rep, he stated that my car should be able to tow this trailer. He stated that the Scamp would weight 1800 pounds "nicely equipped"
Can anyone confirm this model is towable for my 2016 Mazda CX-5? I'd hate to place the order and not have the proper vehicle.

you should be fine. where do you live? are you planning on doing rocky mtns and other things like that or just local stuff?

Mostly local camping here in St George Utah. Once or twice a year in California. The only real incline is going North on the 15 freeway near Vegas but not much mountain driving
then you should be totally fine. enjoy!!

Just got back from an RV dealer. I posed the same question to him and he told me he wouldn't recommend towing a trailer weighing 1800 pounds. Now I'm really confused. He said my vehicle wasn't "made for towing", whatever that means.
maybe I'll wait to see if anyone else has any thoughts or opinions. I appreciate your input Mark

if you look at the european towing limits you will see your same car can tow double over there. it's the US insurance companies and auto people putting the ultra conservative tow ratings because of lawsuits. i towed a scamp 16 with a honda crv (1500 tow max, 3300 tow max in EU) and never had a single issue. towed fine. i now have a larger tow vehicle but if it was broke down i wouldn't hesitate to tow with my wifes CRV again.
in the 70's people pulled 30 foot airstreams with a sedan. FYI

Wow. Thanks for the info on towing with your crv. I think I will go ahead and buy the Scamp.
thanks again
definately make sure you get Brakes on the trailer and a brake controller in your tow vehicle, that helps A LOT. also i wouldn't tow your scamp with water in the tank, i would tow it empty, and fill up at the campgrounds. water is 8 lbs for 1 gallon. 10 gallon tank is 80 pounds. you could lose some more weight by going single propane tank as well if you're worried.
other than that just pack smart and you should be fine.

For the last three years we towed our 2019 13 with bath and used a 2018 subaru crosstrek manual 6 spd. Rated 1,500 and 150 tongue. We packed smart/ light and also did not tow with more than a couple gallons of water. It was marginal towing and if it had an automatic I would have installed a much larger trans cooler. The brakes and controller are absolutely the best idea. It is amazing how much better it stops. Also take the time to weigh the tongue as you would tow it and keep approximately 10% of the Gross weight as tongue or it can become unstable and thats bad deal. If you use the rear hitch for bikes remember every pound you add to the back comes off the tongue and it adds up quickly.

Thanks for the info Salukispeed. Having no experience with pulling trailers, would I just pull the trailer into a weight station and weigh the trailer? If so, what would be the best way to get an accurate weight of the tongue?
Sorry for the dumb question
if you can't get to a scale just pack your stuff in the scamp on that front bunk/couch. obviously you'll have stuff in the cabinets/etc, but if there are loose items (large plastic container with all random stuff) throw it up front. anything that isn't in a cabinet/stored away, throw it on that front bunk during travel, that will keep the weight up front and stop you from fish-tailing.
