Info on Scamp Camp 2014

~~Scamp Camp 2014
It is suggested that you print this out and keep it for reference as you pack for camp.
SERVICE PROJECTS:  We are still collecting can tabs and “Boxtops for Education”.  If you do not have a charity already collecting these items please save them and deliver them to the registration tent on site 78.  The can tabs support the Ronald McDonald house and the boxtops support Red Bird School.  These two projects are supported by our church.  We will also have a donation jar at the tent to help defray expenses for the week.
POTLUCK DINNERS:  Monday night we will have the traditional Chili Dump.  Everyone makes their favorite Chili recipe and then dumps it into the roasters.  If your chili is not heated or frozen, please make sure you bring it up to Site 78 by 3:00 to give it time to thaw and heat.  Plan on bringing a salad or dessert to complete the  meal or any other side dish.  Tuesday night  is our traditional Hot Dog Roast and Pot Luck Dinner.  Main dishes, side dishes, salads and desserts are encouraged.  Hot Dogs, rolls and condiments will be provided.
GREAT GIVEAWAY(S):It was suggested by a member that we have an extra giveaway this year, so we are going to try it.  The first giveaway will be a “White Elephant” giveaway, where you find something around the house that you really don’t want, Wrap it in newspaper, and put it out on the table.  There will be special rules for this giveaway.  Should be a lot of fun!  The second giveaway will be nicer items, possibly handmade, or possibly something representing your area of the country.
GEOCACHE : If you own or can borrow a hand-held GPS unit, some members are going to do a discussion of geocaching.  It is possible that even Flat Stanley will participate.
PICTURE:  A group picture will be taken and made available at a minimal charge.  Please attend the  picture taking, even if you don’t want a copy (unless you are in the witness protection program… we’ll understand!)
HIGHLANDS HAMMOCK ACTIVITIES: The ranger volunteers offer a lot of activities  for you to participate in.  Wednesday night is the  “all Camp potluck” held at the rec hall.  Thursday morning they have coffee and breakfast rolls and breads at the rec hall, and Thursday night  they have a Soup dinner.. Check with the rangers at the Ranger station (check-in) for more.
MUSIC: Do you play guitar, banjo, harmonica, tuba, or any other musical instrument?  Check in with Allan & Susan on Site 137 for jammin;’ and practice.  They usually provide entertainment at the rec hall after the Wednesday pot luck dinner.
CRAFTS:  Sharon Cranson will do another craft in the rec hall Thursday morning after the breakfast.  If you have odds and ends of yarn you can contribute, it might be helpful.  She will be teaching yarn scarves..
WINETASTING:  We will have our Friday evening wine & cheese party at Kevin & Judy Johnson’s site #120.  Bring along your favorite wine to share along with any kind of side dish (cheese, crackers, dessert, etc.)
If you have any ideas for additional activities, please send them to us.

We'll Be There on Site 138

Jane and I will be on Site 138. However, we had to leave the EggCamper at home this year.  I hope we can still join you. I've also brought my guitar to annoy you all.

Facts & figures about Scamp Camp 2014

Scamp Camp 2014 was a record event!  We had 75 trailers and 132 people, who represented Florida, Virginia, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina,  Missouri, Kentucky, New Jersey, Georgia, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, South Carolina, Maryland, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and Ontario, Canada.  There were 45 Scamps, 11 Casitas, 2 Trilliums, 1 Vista, 1 Escape, 1 Eggcamper, 1 Aliner, and 7 "other" (non-fiberglass) attendees.  (I missed some at registration, so it doesn't add up to 75!)

Some of the highlights of the camp included the Chili dump on Monday evening, Floyd's "Tec-talk" on Wednesday morning, trailer tours, 2 great giveaways, Thursday night at the movies, and the traditional Friday wine & cheese tasting party to end the week.  A great time was had by all!

Next year's camp will be held Feb 9 to 13, (departing 14).  We recommend that anyone who wishes to attend --- please register early!  For the 2015 camp you can register as early as March 9, 2014.  We would recommend that you do just that.  Even if you cancel, the park only withholds one day of your registration fee.
