Replacing city water connection

Over the weekend I lost a bunch of water and it took me a bit to figure it out as I was looking inside and underneath for the problem. Turns out it was the city water connection. The outside plug had deteriorated and cracked from the UV exposure and the inside back flow ball didn't seat properly so it leaked around the ball and through some cracks on the plug. Then when I tested it at home the plug blew right out and water gushed out the connection. Hence the need to replace it, Just looking for a bit of advice if anyone has changed one out before.

Thanks,

Replacing City Water Connection

I decided to be proactive and replaced my city water connection while I was doing some other upgrades.

On our first trip out, just before we left town, my wife was filling our potable water tank and I decided to turn the water pump on, well the pump never pressurized the lines and my wife started yelling at me because the water was squirting out the new city water connection (the check ball failed to seat on the new fitting).

So, we stopped at Home Depot on our way out of town and bought a 3/4" brass nipple and a 3/4" brass cap (all threaded to match the hose fittings) and installed the brass nipple and cap so even if the check ball fails we won't have any water running out the city water connection.

I also like that this solution seals my water inlet from outside contaminants. The nipple and cap are always on the hose inlet whenever the hose is not connected.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Thanks for the comments. I like the idea of  brass nipple and cap. The old cap that failed was, I think, pvc and the UV exposure killed it.
