Portable campfire

Received our new Camp Chef propane campfire today.  Tested it in our back yard.  Works amazingly well.

Greg A. showed us his at the 1st Annual Sedona Get-together.  It seems to be a solution to my wife's camp smoke allergy problem.

Many, many years ago, I worked in a sawmill and we would all gather around a fire and drink coffee and shoot the bull early in the morning before work.  The fire was built in an open topped 55 gallon barrel.  It was always a really HOT fire.  One of the group was an older Indian fellow.  He liked to point out that he always liked "Injun fire".  He explained to me that, "Injun build small fire, stand close...white man build BIG fire, stand way back."

Our weather was freezing fog tonight and the "Injun fire" kept me comfy but poor, cold blooded, Bevie said it was too cold for her to stand out in the backyard.  I called our daughter who lives in Ridgecrest, CA and (SUPRISE!) she got the same thing for Christmas.

We will be hooking up with them in Fallon, NV on the 2nd of January for a week of camping.  She suggested we light both units and place her mom between them.  Maybe she will sit outside with us then.  LOL

Thanks for the Sedona show and tell, Greg A.  I always seem to find a new idea or toy at Scamp-outs.

Love it!

Bob, I absolutely love that propane campfire.  So many campgrounds now have bans on wood campfires....or if there isn't a ban, we have found that the wood bundles they sell are very expensive.  This has been a wonderful solution to that problem.  I, like Bev, also have allergies and the smoke from a wood campfire really bothers me. But with this thing there is no smoke or odor!  I am very cold natured, and so sometimes when we first light the propane campfire I am still cold.  But after a little while, those lava rocks heat up and it really starts throwing out the heat.  I usually sit pretty close until those lava rocks kick in, and then I can back up a little. Enjoy!  it was so great meeting you both in Sedona!  smiley
