Greg, thanks for the reassurance about how well the no-glue technique works in the long term. I'll keep the seems tight on the flooring, assuming I ever get to install it.

Installing the 1/4" underlay plywood has turned into a much bigger PITA than I had anticipated. Hundreds of fasteners required and areas under the cabinets that a pneumatic stapler can't get to.
