Axle angle lift

I need to replace the original axle on our 2000 19ft scamp sometime soon. Sixteen years and over 13k miles have surely taken their toll. It fits OK with my current truck (2006 f-150 2wd), but I feel like I should get a bit of a lift for when I eventually replace the truck, since modern trucks seem to be ever growing upwards and I would really like 4wd down the road.

So, I was pretty sold on just getting a 3" lift from either the factory or a third party and having it welded or bolted on when I replaced the axle. Since I have realized that I can get most of that lift just by ordering an axle with a different starting angle. It looks like you could get 3.6 inches of lift by ordering 45 deg down instead fo the standard 10 deg down, or just 1.3 inches of lift by going with the 22.5 deg down. If you add in a high profile hanger that seem to give you another inch of lift. Although, to be honest the current hanger looks like it may be a high profile hanger. I'll have to measure it.

I'll be adding the proper bolt on brackets so future changes will be easier. In some sense an after-market bolt on lift may be the easiest approach since it would be cheapest to undo if I don't like it. 

So, I assume that changing the angle will change the ride a bit. But, it will also raise the axle tube out of the way of road debris and high centering issues a bit. Is that tradeoff worth it? Will it destroy my trailer by making it bounce like plastic cup tossed out a window?

S16&S19 axles

S-16 & 19 come with 22.5 down angle with a 1" perch. The 1" perch is needed to get the caster bend under the floor. Most stick with the same angle, comments have been the 45deg could cause a stiffer ride . Scamp uses a 3" piece of frame stock for their lift. I raised one trailer with the tall perches  and welded bolt on brackets to the frame with about the results. Both lift give you 55" to the bottom lip of the upper deck with 13" tires. The bed rails on my 4X4 Frontier was 49" so I was OK with the lift. To go higher you can go with bigger tires and wheels. If you weld on the bolt on brackets Orbital Machine sells a bolt in 3" lift kit that can lift it even further. Others have extended the tongue and use a king pin on full size trucks with regular 5 th wheel hitches.
