April Fools Gathering - April 1 - 6, 2020

Announcing

2020 April Fools Gathering

April 1 - 6, 2020

Westside Regional Park at Bodega Bay, California has been selected as the site for this year’s April Fools gathering.  (April 1 - 6, 2020)   This park meets the necessary needs for a gathering:    1.  reservations for site specific.  2.  Water available.  3.  Dump station on site. .   The park is located in a cleared area with a few trees right on Bodega Bay.  It could get foggy and/or breezy or even raining like it did last year.  (It is on the California coast, after all!)  Let’s hope the weather will cooperate!   In researching reviews I find that they range anywhere from 5 stars down to 1 star, with the most stars averaging 4.  The park has potable water, coin operated showers, flush toilets, and a dump station. (Reviews mention a $7 fee for use of dump station).  There are NO RV Hookups.  When you go to the website you can see which sites are available and also see a photograph of that site.

This will be a simple gathering with no planned activities.  You may act as your own weekend guide.  Of course, that doesn’t mean spontaneous activities won’t occur.  There’s lots to do in the area.  Fees paid at Westside are valid at Doran Beach Park, around the corner from Westside.  Doran Regional Park features a wide, 2-mile stretch of beach on Bodega Bay and is ideal for walking, picnicking, playing in the sand, flying kites, surfing, and bird-watching. Walk along the shoreline or meander through grassy dunes that connect with the Bird Walk Coastal Access Trail

You will need to make your own site reservations.  The “official” gathering dates are April 1 - 6.   Several folks may arrive a day or two earlier than that.  Cost for camping is $32/night, with non-refundable $9.50 reservation fee.  Reservations are available three days to one year in advance.  Payment is due at the time of booking.   At the time of this notice (October 8, 2019) there were 17 sites available, out of 48.  Reservations may be made:

Online at SonomaCountyCamping.org

By calling (707)565-2267 from 10am - 3pm Monday-Friday

If we have piqued your interest, we hope you will join us.  Seventeen folks have already reserved their sites.   When you have made a reservation:  Please let me know which site and which days you will be there.  You can contact me by PM at this website.

April Fools Gathering

Sonoma County terms of service allow for full refund ten or more days out, we are still 15. I've already written the Governor and chided him for automatically assigning Fogy status to anyone 65 or older, saying that we should stay home. Since testing is JUST starting in this country, and it is reported that one can be contagious for TWO WEEKS before showing symptoms, I would be perfectly good staying home until we get a better picture of what is going on. I say this reluctantly, as this is the closest Scamp Camp to home (25.8 miles) there will ever be.

Rally Cancellation?

The Roost is being published tomorrow by noon EDT. Is this rally officially canceled due to COVID-19 concerns and your state policy? Please give folks an update regarding the refund window, travel planning and what they need to know regarding personal decision-making.

April Fools Gathering

We are still in the process of assessing the number of people who still want to attend.   Our senior folks are being urged to stay home.  We probably won't cancel the Gathering.  There are several of our original group that want to attend.   Everyone is responsible for their own reservations - so they can go if desired.   We had 24 original signups.  Of that number it looks like at least 12 are canceling out.  Before all the virus thing happened Westside Regional Park was completely full.   If anyone else out there wants to snag a site, you can check the Westside website for any new vacancies.   My call to the park office this morning said the campground is still open - for the present time.  The park contact information is located in post #1 above.   If you have any further comments or questions you can contact me by PM through this website.    - - Earl A

April Fools Gathering - Bodega Bay

Here's the very latest information from Sonoma County:

Santa Rosa, CA  –  March 17, 2020 at 4:00 PM  –

The Sonoma County Health Officer has issued a Health Order directing residents to shelter in place effective midnight on Wednesday March 18, 2020.

This recent Order comes after the County received two additional cases of local transmission from coronavirus (COVID-19) yesterday, and two cases over the past weekend.

All individuals currently living within the County are ordered to shelter at their homes. To the extent individuals are using shared or outdoor spaces, they must at all times as reasonably possible maintain social distancing of at least six feet from any other person when they are outside their residence.

This Health Order will be in place for three weeks until April 7, 2020. The Health Order limits activity, travel and business functions to only the most basic and essential needs.
