Coffee in your Scamp

Just wondering how different owners like to make coffee in their Scamps. We are getting layout 6, which has an esp tiny kitchen. Instant, french press, K-cups, percolator, etc? What has worked well for you?

Coffee

Years ago we switched to a stovetop glass bubble percolator coffee pot so it didn’t matter if we had hookups or boondocking. Works so well and like the coffee that we continue to use it. It’s nice that it can be used on the indoor stove or outdoor stove. One addl advantage when camping in cool weather, firing up the percolator in the morning knocks the chill off the trailer.

Wonderful Coffee

I'm a french press gal. Love the flavor of the bean this way and have done this for years tent camping and am now continuing to do it with the Scamp.

Hoping your adventures are wonderful,

Drip!

I use the 1950s era drip coffee maker I've used at home since my sister dredged it out of my parents' basement a few years ago. You heat the water on the stove and pour it over so it drips through. Similar quality of flavor to a French press like Sue uses and probably not as easy as Greg's percolator since you need to heat the water in another pot. Once it's brewed it goes into my insulated mug and I'm good to go! I've included a photo from my last trip. The coffee pot is at the right edge of the picture (without its lid since it was waiting for hot water - the lid is sitting in front of the sink) and the pot from my mess kit is used to heat the water. You can easily find the plastic "cone" filters and holders that sit on top of travel mugs that use the same process.

Happy Brewing!

This kind of set up works for us if you have an external electric outlet.

I have a 4-cup Mr. Coffee

I have a 4-cup Mr. Coffee that I use with electric hook-ups. This makes two mugs of coffee and will hold the second mug hot until I'm ready for it. If I don't have electric, I use a single cup cone that sits on top of the mug and pour hot water over the grounds.

The Mr. Coffee lives on my stove cover when stationary, in the sink when traveling - don't even need to unplug it. The Melitta cone and the filters live in one of the cabinets above the stove until needed.

I tried a perculator, but I just prefer some form of drip coffee.

4 cup Cuisinart

We have a 4 cup Cuisinart drip coffee maker--we bought it 10 years ago for camping as it has a stainless steel pot.  It has taken a lot of bouncing around over the years.  More expensive than a Mr. Coffee, but I wanted the stainless pot.  A friend has a cute little setup, a combo 2 cup coffee maker, hot plate, and toaster oven.  She has an outdoor plug on her Scamp and uses it outside.  She has done little pancakes on the hot plate, and baked small pizzas in the oven.  Bonus:  it is bright red!

Coffee

I like the French press....flavor and ease of use. Smaller footprint as well no filters or plastic k-cups to throw away. :)

Making Coffee

We do as ELongest does.  Ours does not collapse, as it is a Malita using #6 cone filters.  I thing I’ll order the one Eddie uses so as to take up less room.  I tried perking coffee, but it added way to much moisture to the trailer, and took longer than the drip method by heating water (with cover on the pan) on the stove and then pouring it over the grounds which will drip into an insulated 12 cup metal pot, (I drink a pot a day).

french press

I usually camp without any hookups so I have a small French press. It is quick and easy for me to boil water inside on my propane cooktop or outside on my coleman stove. I also enjoy the flavor using this method (although I have never been known to turn down coffee brewed using the other methods).
