Anyone have leads on where to find a small side mounted air conditioning unit to retrofit into a 1998 16' foot standard Scamp trailer? A Canadian source would be nice but will look at a US source as an alternative.

When it is a window or closet AC mod you simply use a household window unit AC available at most household retailers.

I mounted a Haier window AC unit (bought at Wal-Mart for $100) in the rear window of my 2007 13' Scamp. I removed the rear window screen and opened the rear sliding window as far as it goes. Then I cut a 2x4 with slots on both ends to fit the bottom of the window opening, thus creating a window sill to mount the AC unit on. I installed the AC unit in the window, with the unit sitting on the new 2x4 window sill (make sure unit tips back slightly for water drainage). I screwed the AC unit to the wood 2x4 sill. Then I cut a 2x4 with slots on both ends for the top of the window opening and made a 2x4 filler piece to fit between the AC unit and the top 2x4. I used the foam that came with the AC unit to fill in the gaps on the sides and use silicone around the AC unit to make it watertight. I have been on many rough roads and the AC unit has never moved. The cord was long enough to plug into the outlet under the table.
It looks really nice. I like window AC or any that isn't on the roof. I figure, it breaks down, it's 100 degrees, a trip to the local big box puts you right back in business! I have been in hot places where someone's roof AC went out and the local place had to order one in and even overnight is a long time in the heat versus the trip to the big box store.
I looked at the EggCamper for awhile and considered purchasing it BUT that AC unit under the seat was the deal breaker because my son would have to sleep over it and I just think that would not be the best situation. I noticed in the 16' Casita, the AC is in the closet at one end and I wasn't sure what I thought about that.
Summer here and it will be in the 90s for at least the next week in Kansas! Yuck!

Cathy I had saw that ac in the 16 ft Casita the other day and showed it to my hubby,he liked the idea of it being where it was,in that closet space,we think it would be far enough away from the bed we would be sleeping in to be pleny comfortable.....your Ks humidity is what kills us back there,we are going to Garden City next week to puppy and house set for sis and brother in law while they are in Pratt for a knee replacement for him....told her I would do that as long as their AC was working lol

I went back in my photo archives to find my 81 13 Scamp Window AC in the rear drivers window.
One of the first trips out in the remodeled Scamp the previous AC unit died. The installation on the previous AC was a mess and had over 27 types of adhesives and sealants. Took 30 days to remove the AC unit and clean all the glues off. This was the replacement unit with wood trim pieces that matched the new cabinet doors we'd just made.
