Adding welded receiver

Yes, from personal experience on a 1999 16. The welder was a family friend who is really good (restores old cars), but I believe any decent welder could do it. Picture isn't the best because of underfloor insulation we added (after receiver welding of course) but it's the best I've got. In the lower right you can see the crossmember laying flat which allows for a good weld on the frame at each end and on the receiver section. Then also welded to the bumper. As good or better than factory.

Adding welded receiver

Well this is good to know and thanks for contributing to the world of Scamp knowledge!  I now retract my conclusion that it would be hard to do post production.

BTW, do you think the insulation helps?  I have noticed the floor with only vinyl does get quite cold.

Insulation

Gordon2,

The underfloor insulation definitely makes a huge difference if the trailer is used in colder weather. 2" polystyrene gives an R-10 insulating value. On a rather cold night the section of floor right above the gray water tank that is not insulated was cool when the rest of the floor was warm. Perfect Casita Hitch (Scamp)/ cross members

Perfect Casita (Orbital Machine) makes a very good hitch. I had them on Two Casita 17's and one Scamp S-16 with no issues with the hitch itself. Even though they are bolt on they can also be welded in place. The engineering and fabrication has been done for you which is the big thing. The bottom line is a lot of people are not always happy once they hang a couple of bikes on the back end of a Scamp especially S-13's (YMMV).

Scamp rear frame cross members : Most early Scamps did not have an angle cross member between the rear drop floor and the bumper. Thee reason being there were not many grey water tanks being installed. I would say when Scamp started installing the black 26 gal. grey water tanks is when the cross members started to be a standard Item. The use of grey water tanks were driven by the shower packages. The cross member is there to attach the tank straps to. Since more newer trailers were being sold with showers it was just easier to add the cross member to all frames being built in the frame shop. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
