This is the microwave installation we did on our 98 16 ft scamp deluxe ... The microwave is installed above the fridge replacing the cupboard.. In our model there was a factory plug installed in the back of the cupboard above the fridge , our plug was fortunately in the right position to clear the microwave ........
After I removed the cupboard door I built a base that will securely hold the microwave in place .
I set the base in position and secured it with wood screws and left enough room on the top of the opening so I could slide the microwave in and set it down on the new base
.
I set the microwave down into the base and now it is unable to move back and forth (DO NOT FORGET TO PLUG IT IN )
I picked up some trim from the lumber store and the closest match they had to birch was hemlock .
I finished the trim with 2 coats of light oak stain , it was still tacky the next morning so I let it sit another day ....
I wanted to be able to remove the trim so I could take out the microwave if needed . I secured the trim with plastic washers wood screws and the small plastic brown snap caps from scamp , It also matches the deluxe interior .
Another finished picture
Check out the nice rack that was built and installed by the previous owner , he also built another one on the cabinet next to the front dinette and a small shelf in the back of the trailer for setting your small items on such as your keys, wallet, cell phone or maybe even your eye glasses .....
We were both on the same page when we looked at the opening in Nov. Very nice work, looks better than a factory installation.
The hemlock looks like a real good match.

Very beautiful work!
However I do have some fear that you might have an issue with ventilation. Some foods can generate quite a bit of heat and moisture, which is one reason why I just removed the door altogether in front of my microwave.
GE recommends
Countertop Microwaves:
3 inches on each side.
3 inches on the top.
1 inch in the rear.
Note: In cabinet installation for countertop microwaves is not recommended without the use of a built in kit. Built in kits will be listed for specific models in their specifications. If a built in kit is not available, the above air clearances are necessary.
And I assume the recommendations are for an an open space, on a countertop. I find that a lot of heat comes out the front of the enclosed space in the Scamp microwave cabinet, since it has no where else to go.
Hi Gordon ,
Very good suggestion....
The microwave is only a 700 watt there is more than adequate clearance for it inside the cabinet , however if It seems to become a issue of over heating I will definitely put in a vent on the back or the sidewall of the cabinet ....
Thanks for your input that is definitely a concern

I went to the depot and bought a landscape light that had a louvred grill for a walkway. Used the grill to put a ventilation for the micro on the side of the cabinet. Never had any issues with it after that, vented well.
