Yes, Not Fairly

In KS, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer".  If they were so restrictive with businesses coming in, we might not have to tax so heavily.  In AL, we bought an RV and the sales tax on RVs was less about 1/2 of the regular amount of sales tax.  That was nice.  Here we would pay 8.5% tax and that is a lot of money especially after saving so long for buying the item anyway as we always pay cash.  Debt-free since 1999!

We just paid taxes on the pop-up and the house. : (  We paid $229.00 for a 2011 pop-up camper.  Eventually, we will basically pay for it twice, once with the list price and again with the amount of taxes.

No wonder so many people are living "on wheels" now.  I was blown away when I was looking at "van dweller" videos and I was just flooded with them. "Want taxes from me?  Got to catch me first."

AZ Sales Tax

In AZ you only pay sales tax on brand new vehicle/trailers. Used vehicles are not charged sales tax, but we do pay a vehicle license tax every time you register. Most of my trailers have been $20-40, but won't tell you what the brand new one ran. crying

I hear that Greg

We paid thru the nose for the new Casita, more then the much more expensive truck we bought in Sept because we just paid the taxes on what we paid after trading in the other vehicle.Theres no way not to pay sales tax in any state we have ever been in:-(

RE: "Only problem we had came

RE: "Only problem we had came yesterday when we were traveling home and had the fridge running on battery and the trailer battery died for some reason."

Thats easy.. the fridge draws more power than the tug supplies.  Say that on this trip the fridge needed 10 units of electrical energy, but in the same time, the tug could only supply 8.. the other two have to come from the trailer's battery and in time that will drain it.

But in less then an hour and a half?

Gordon, would that cause that in less then 2 hours? I cant beleive that this new F150 doesnt supple enough battery to run the fridge for that long, but I dont know....We will try it again on this trip and see how it goes,we left it alone and it charged up in a half hour of coming on to the house,we couldnt figure that out:-)

Dead Battery

Earlene, you are correct, your new F150 is more than capable of supplying enough power to your trailer to run the refrigerator AND Charge up your battery simultaneously. Additionally, your trailer battery should be capable of running the fridge for a couple of hours without being completely dead.

So, what caused your dead battery?

I suspect that you have an issue with your Converter ( I presume that you were plugged into shore power just before your 2 hour trip home ).

1, Your Converter did not charge your battery before your trip. Why?

2, Your Converter prevented your F150 from charging your battery (and supplying power for the fridge) on your return trip. How?

I would check the fuses in your Converter and check the battery voltage when the trailer is plugged into shore power. Next, I would check the battery voltage when the Ford is plugged into the trailer with the engine running ( power is not supplied to the trailer when the engine is turned off [ to keep you from draining the engine start battery while camping ]). Be sure to unplug the trailer from shore power when testing the Ford to Trailer voltages.

It is also possible that you have a problem with your ground connection ( I actually had this problem [ I was getting 12v from the tow vehicle, but, only 10.5v at the battery when plugged into the TV ]).

Another possibility is that your battery is defective.

Good Luck and let us know what caused your dead battery.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

If it was only two hours than

If it was only two hours than maybe the tug was not suppling any power,... blown fuse on the charge line or bad connection?   There are a number of possible issues including the converter being PART of the problem so you just have to do a through and methodical diagnosis.

Battery Too Drained?

Earlene:  Were you using the furnace at night with the fan pulling power from the battery?  Also lights and I'm not sure but doesn't the frig pull some power from the battery for operation?  I could be totally wrong.  It would be the first time but..........  : )  I wish!  Also, my other thought was if there were a chance that something was left on in the trailer that you weren't aware of that was sipping from the battery while you were on the road.  Hope it is a minor thing or just a glitch like not plugged in secure enough.

nothing was on

It had rained the night before and the only thing that Launey could think of is that somehow when we plugged into the truck that the connection wasnt any good,it did it and then we stopped and he checked it and then it was working ok and everything was fine, this trip we will be keeping a sharp eye on it
