I may be a little paranoid, however how does one egress a 13' scamp if the door is closed and can't be opened?

How to egress 13' scamp if door is blocked and can't be opened?
In my 1999 version, there is a roof vent that is also an escape hatch. It has red levers that release it so it can be quickly removed. I believe the newer ones use an escape window with similar mechanism for quick removal.
If outside, take the two hinge bolts out on the forward side of the door. Door should come right off.
If inside, per post 2.

We have a 2008 16 Scamp and it does have the red handle to open the upper screen vent door completely for egress out of the Scamp.

The roof vent is an escape hatch (but can someone tell me how one levitates themselves up to the escape hatch if the trailer is still upright) (and then how do you get off the top of the trailer???) But if you are in a hurry (fire!!! for example) take your shotgun or other suitable device and break out a window.

Getting the hatch open could be a little tricky if you're height challenged but actually getting up and out the hatch will be even more so. I'd step onto the bench of the dinette, then step onto the counter on both sides of the isle and then climb through the hatch. However, now you have to get off your egg and this is going to be no small trick since you're sliding down an angled slope to the ground almost 12 feet away and gaining speed as you descend. You'll need to watch out for the spare tire as well as the drip edge over the door; both of which present a formidable obstacle.
In an emergency, you'll need to make haste, but you may have time for a controlled decent if you've planned ahead and managed a knotted rope tied off to something inside your trailer.
My best suggestion is to ram the door open. Once, we locked ourselves outside (with the key inside!). I gave the door handle a strong jerk; the door opened. This caused no damage. Even if it were to do so, that would be a small price to escape in an emergency.
IMHO, the rood escape hatch is good for two things:
1. An emergency escape but only if the Scamp is on it's side.
2. A way to access the back part of the roof for maintenance, by putting a small ladder or step stool under it on the inside and climbing on it.
Just the two things. No more.
of course the vent part of the hatch is also good for air flow, but the hatch.. just two things.
Gordon, very good points. Thank you.
