New Guy

Hello all.  I am new to this site, but have been visiting for the last week.  We presently have a Coleman pop up, and in the past have had almost every kind of RV or camper, starting with a tent, Nimrod pop up, 19' foot travel trailer, Hi-Lo trailer, pickup camper, 13' U-Haul trailer, 37' fifth wheel, 29' motor home (big mistake), Coleman pop up (took from AL to Alaska and back in 2001), another Hi-Lo trailer (17'), another tent, and our present Coleman. We love our Coleman, the interior room is spacious for us, but the ravages of our age are making the set up and take down a real chore. So we are thinking about a Scamp 16' layout 6 with toilet and shower. We live in OH now and looking forward to spring, but may go to FL for a week or so before spring. Good to be with others of like mind and interests!

Another Welcome

Gosh, you sound a lot like us.  We have had 8 RVs of different types and 3 or 4 tents and now have a 2011 pop-up we bought.  Well, it didn't take long to realize that although we love pop-ups, with both of us being 60 years old, just too much aerobics to get it altogether and we don't have a shower which adds to the whole deal.  I do know though that nothing compares to sleeping on a nice night in the screened sleeping area of the pop-up, like in the desert.  But, the other issue these days is security and although nothing is really secure anymore, a pop-up really puts you in harms way a little quicker.  I think the 5th wheel, a Jayco, was our least favorite.  Our 2nd RV, an old Winnebago Class C was our favorite and we used it extensively but it became too expensive to repair.  So, we are "looking" for a molded fiberglass, maybe a Scamp but depends on how it all comes together.

Another Welcome

Yeah Snow Gypsy, we both love our Coleman...The feeling of a tent in the outdoors but the security of protection from the weather and a place for everything. But at our age (75) it has become too much to look forward to setting up and taking down.  Looking forward to our next RV experience. Thanks for your reply...I read and love all you posts.

Welcome

I do miss my Palomino Popup. Our family of four spent comfortable weekends in it.  A popup has the tent-like feel, with the smell of canvas and the fresh night air passing through.  I'm now 75 and traveling solo. As are so many fellow  SOI members I look forward to prolonged trips with the comfort and easy handling of the Scamp.

Scamp 16

We are the proud owners of a beautiful Scamp 16, and I must say, easy set up and tow! For just 2 they are absolutely ideal. We purchased ours 2nd hand and it appeared new inside out. My beautiful wife Dawn made new curtains and recovered the cushions with fabulous fabric. Hope you consider a Scamp, as they are absolutely ideal for travel fun.

Scamp 16

Well, the list is quite long as to the aircraft I have flown. 2 seat trainers to 48 passenger Dash 8. Sabreliner model 40 and 60, Learjet, and Falcon 20 are the major birds I have flown. Caravan Cessana 208 for Fed Ex, over 1100 hours in type. We too have the side dinette and rear bath/shower and just love it. Where is home? St. Charles MO for us, just west of St. Louis, MO

Wow Flyboy Scamp, you have

Wow Flyboy Scamp, you have lots of experience in fast movers. The vast majority of my time was in Army helicopters. I have a lesser amount of fixed wing time. We owned a Cherokee 140 and a Cessna 310. ATP MEL and Rotorcraft-Helicopter; Commercial SEL, Instrument Helicopter; Flight Instructor SEL, MEL, Rotorcraft-Helicopter, Instrument Airplane and Helicopter; GI Advanced Instrument. Unfortunately my medical is expired and I am working with the FAA to get a Special Issuance due to medications I have to take, but it is not looking favorable.

Flying

Well, thank you for your your service friend. Army helicopters must have been fun to fly. I wish i could have flown military. I flew the Cessna 310 when I was much younger, flying freight. As a teenager, I flew the Piper 140 as well. Learnd to fly at Lambert International Airport, can't do that anymore! Love now being retired with no desire anymore to fly. I do retain my CFI license, too precious to let go. I renew free anyway through American Flyers. I enjoy retirement now, ham radio, sports cars, bicycles, and I can do lazy well too!

Another Newby to Scamp Trailers

Hello Robertsd8:

Its nice to see so many others looking at the Scamps.  Enjoy your summer exploring with your small camper.   My wife and I just purchased a renovated Scamp 13 and are on our way to Connecticu from Iowa

this week to pick it up.  I enjoy the forum and the trading of insighst to camping with a smaller trailer.  Hope to get to some gatherings this summer and see what others have done with their trailers.
