exhaust fan for ceiling air vent?

We just took a 3 week trip to southern CA, via southern Idaho and eastern NV.  Man, was it hot!  We have a 16 ft Scamp, vintage 1980.  No AC.  We used a little fan plugged into the 12 volt accessory outlet to circulate air.  Helped a little, but what we really need is an exhaust fan attached below our ceiling air vent to pull the hot air out so the cooler air of the evening, night and morning, can be drawn in through the windows and door.  Here's a picture of the ceiling air vent.  The inside measurements of the opening are 13 3/4 inches by 13 3/4 inches.  Anyone have a suggestion?  Thanks.  Ken

Replace it with a Maxx Air Fan

I'd replace it with a Maxx Air Fan.  That's what Scamp uses.  It should fit into the existing opening, and will perform much better than trying to retrofit the existing vent with an exhaust fan.

Maxx Air Fan

Hi. Before installing a Maxx Air Fan, check out the comments about this fan in this Forum.

We have a 2020 13' Scamp that we purchased new. It came equipped with a Maxx Air fan that has given us nothing but trouble. Every time we press the On/Off button to turn the fan on, the cover opens, the fan starts whirring and our hopes soar as we think, "This time it will work!"

Alas, every time it starts its infernal beeping, turns itself off, and displays the dreaded green light of despair. We finally figured out that removing the fan's fuse and re-inserting it will get the fan to work. Sometimes the remove and re-insert move work the first time, sometimes we must repeat seveal times.

As you can imagine, this had become very tiresome. We are now looking to remove the Maxx Air fan and replace it with a basic non-fancy non-electronically controlled fan like the one that came in our 2010 16' Scamp.

Well I was going to suggest

Well I was going to suggest the Dometic Fan-tastic fan 801250 which doesn't have the rain sensor but evidently they are not making it anymore.  It is what Scamp used to put in and has 3 speeds, a toggle for in/out and a knob/handle for opening and closing the lid.  Simple easy to use.

So if you can find one that's what I would replace your existing vent with.

Replacement Fan

Thanks, Joy. That's probably the fn that was in our 2010 16" Scamp. A great fan, never any problems.
