wheel locks

Hi - I have a 13' Scamp and use an expensive PROVEN Industries tongue lock. It is one tough lock that is nearly

impenetrable. However, I worry about someone just hauling the whole trailer off! I don't know if there is a way to

prevent THAT, but is there a good quality tire lock made that can withstand cutting/bashing,towing away, etc? OR other suggestions? I camp in campgrounds sometimes but I often boondock, and it feels like my girl is just sitting out there as a target....Thanks!

ps

I meant to say the PROVEN lock is for the hitch. Also wondering about locking lug nuts?
Or a boot type lock.... The TRIMAX locks all seem to be easily breakable according to reviews.

PROVEN Industries Hitch lock

That is a very good hitch lock, but the fact remains that a Scamp can be easily loaded onto a tilt bed and hauled away. Best bet is a good insurance policy AND a good tracker hidden in the wall. It is also important to keep all tracker paper work out of the Scamp.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVtHiX12TVw

Thanks ac0gv

Yes, that is what I figured - just back up a flatbed and load up the Scamp. The video was very helpful, especially the part about how a coupler can be removed so easily and that would negate the security of the hitch lock. I bought the PROVEN lock recently after they made upgrades, so I still think it would be a deterrent since it would take quite a lot to remove it.

I have insurance on the trailer through my car insurance....do you know if I can insure for replacement value or just current value? Also, where can I find out about a good hidden tracker? And last I'm a newbie to having an iPhone, but am wondering is there is something on it that could be used to track the trailer also? Thanks again for your response and any other suggestions - I'm probably not the only Scamper out there who has this concern.

deterrent

Sadly anything we do is only a deterrent for those almost honest folks.  Serious thieves can beat most anti theft devices.  We have a good tongue lock and a heavy cable thru the wheel and axle as a second deterrent..

Yes, agreed Saluki ....and

Yes, agreed Saluki ....and all we can do is hedge our bets. Can I ask what kind of cable and

lock you use? This seems like a really good idea instead of a single lock on one wheel.

Have to look

The brand of tongue lock Escapes me and I will have to look.  It has an internal steel piece from under and a sleeve around it all with a lock assembly that locks them together internally in a pocket.  The cable is an old school 1/2 inch motorcycle cable and gnarly lock  but really only secures one side.

I have the PROVEN Industries

I have the PROVEN Industries lock for the hitch lock, and the one you are describing sounds like the same one. You can attach the chains to a separate plate that fits in the hole for the ball, a steel cover encases everything, and there is a puck lock.
