Pote & Pans

So we have a bit of a problem. My wife loves to cook. We just got a 13 Scamp. The storage space is, obviously, limited.

What cookware do you use? Where do you store it? We are looking at the experience of the forum for practical tips and hacks.

Hi Alex,

Hi Alex,

Our approach is minimalist.  One 10", non stick skillet, Emeril Lagasse , with a Calphalon glass cover.  Found both at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  For coffee, a JetBoil with French Press, Yeti insulated hot/cold cups.  We also have a small stainless steel cook kit from our sailboat, but have not used it at this point.  Simple one dish meals, the glass cover keeps things clean, and coffee in 5 minutes max.  Eggs, bacon, home fries, oatmeal and such for breakfast.  Prepare meals at home, freeze in vacuum bags and put in cold fridge before leaving.  There are also some nice frozen one dish meals available.  All this and more are stored in the three cabinets above the stove/sink area.  Finally, I suggest purchasing a box of dehydrated meals from your local camping store, or Costco.  Pack them away, ours are under the couch, for a quick and easy meal.

All the best,

Frosty

The sky's the limit

I have a little propane table top grill, but my Scamp trips are usually short working trips, so I don't cook all that much.  I love to cook on our travel grill when we use our big RV on long trips though, and I never cook inside except to warm up things in the microwave.  That being said, I have a friend who is a gourmet cook and a big part of her Scamp camping is cooking!  She amazes me with what she whips out.  Her first Scamp was a 13' with an ICEBOX, not refrigerator.  I would wander next door and one day homemade pizza, another grilled corn and steaks.  WOW!  She just finished a trip to Myrtle Beach and sent pics of shrimp and grits one day, BBQ brisket salad the next.

Random suggestions:

Two sizes of skillets, two sizes of sauce pans all with interchangeable lids.  Outdoor grill--either propane or (as my friend lugs around!) a little cast iron tabletop charcoal beast.  I fit my pots and pans under the sink along with my little coffee maker.  The grill goes in my tow vehicle.  If you have room in your TV, a big tote is a good storage option.  The fridge is small...a separate cooler is another consideration.  You can buy coolers that plug into your vehicle.  I like to freeze meals (fajitas, stew, etc) and put the frozen stuff in the fridge to help keep it cold on the road, but that is only good for short trips.  A microwave would be a good addition, but you have to have a secure place to stow it.  A 13' bounces around quite a bit, you don't want anything hard-sided banging around.  Have fun outfitting your campground kitchen!
