my 13' Scamp is ordered with a "wide", 54" double mattress. I can not find the length of the mattress here or on the Scamp factory site. If you know, please tell me. Also I read somewhere that the wide mattress needs an extra piece of wood as a base, because the table is not cut for the extra mattress width. Is this correct?
Thanks, Mark
Our 13' with the wide mattress is incarcerated (in winter storage) so I can't give you the exact length. We use full size sheets, which are 75" long, so that that might be of use to you. With the minor exception of the natural curve of the trailer and therefore the mattress, the sheets fit fine. We also didn't add any wood or anything else beneath the mattress.. just what came from Backus.

I have a 2014 13 foot with wide bed. The bed/dinette comes with everything you need. You don't have to add anything.

Jim and SG, thanks. I am thinking of getting a piece of foam to put on top of the cushions to try and eliminate any spaces between the pads. I can certainly wait for " the jail break".

Thanks for making us feel so welcome.

I think that typical conversion beds in RVs are very uncomfortable to sleep on. I also have a large high end older motorhome and like the scamp dinette cushions, many jack knife sofas are also very uncomfortable. So with the Scamp, I bought a 3 inch memory foam topper from Costco that makes it at least tolerable. The problem with the topper is that it it bulky and takes up space if you want to convert the bed back to a dinette. To do so, I have to try to manage the bulky topper by folding and rolling it up and shoving it back under one side of the dinette, or throw it in the tow vehicle. I wish manufacturers would come up with a better cushion. What do others do to resolve this issue, or do you not find it a problem?

We usually just buy a full foam mattress from Ikea or Amazon. Both have zippered covers, so you can cut off the corners off the foam and reuse the cover with no sewing. With a S-13 and non dedicated rear bed that can be an issue with using the dinette. To add sleeping comfort over hard cushions and they are fairly easy to store I use Thermarest Base Camp air sleeping pads.

There are two boards under the bed on the Scamp wide bed models. The two boards come with the trailer and are part of the wide bed package. I have no problem sleeping on the bed with no extra padding. My wife wants the extra padding so we use a four inch pad from Wal-Mart. When the pad is on the bed we do not set up the dinette. The pad is too bulky to store.
