I finally got in the front door!

Tonight I was casually looking over my history and noticed that for the scampcamper website it was prefaced with https: I don't know how the "s" got on there but there it was. I suspect that my son may have had something to do with it but I don't know. Anyway, I removed the "s" and I got in OK. Will wonders never cease!!!

Editor Issue Update

Apologize for the inconvenience on the break in the editor. We have resolved the editor appearing in the new posts in each forum, but have not quite resolved the editor issue in the topic replies, etc.
Have it narrowed down to what broke it, and we are working to complete the repairs and hope to have the editor completely back in place by the weekend.
We appreciate your patience, as this has been a perplexing one to resolve.

Rob, sorry you seem to be encountering difficulties.

Not sure what you mean by entering a photo from your camera. The instructions are written to pics stored on a hard drive or a cloud drive on your computer.

Here are the photo instructions which is an almost identical process on most internet sites, what steps are you having a problem with? Maybe we can sort it out if I see where your bogging down.

Photo Uploading Instructions:
Before beginning the photo upload, make sure your cursor is blinking in the body of the post where you want your photo to appear in your post.

  • Right below these instructions you will see an "Add a New File". Click the "Choose File" button.
  • This will open a box to locate your photo on your computer, select the photo you want, and click the "Open"button.
  • Next, click the "Upload" button and wait until the picture appears.
  • Once the photo appears there is a "Style" drop-down box to select the image size: Original - Large - Medium - or Thumbnail size. Original will usually provide the largest picture depending on your photo details.
  • Once the photo appears, click the "Insert" button and your photo will appear in the body of the post where your cursor had been placed..
  • If you need to add additional photos you will see an additional "Add a New File" line has appeared. Click the "Choose File" button.and repeat the process.

entering a photo

greg thanks for your help. it seems to be the size of the  photo that is the problem. I have to go into picture mgr to reduce the size of each photo. is this normal?  also have tried using a card reader . instead of direct from camera to usb port on computer.. i am using a computer at the library. this has worked on other web sites (craigs list)

Photo Size

Hi Robert,

Yes, we cut off at 3mb upload which is a huge photo, but some have their cameras settings that take pics with massive file sizes in excess of 3mb. You could imagine if a website allowed any size photo, how much storage would be required to purchase after several years of operation.

There are two ways to deal with this issue:

  1. I make sure my camera is set to take smaller size pics. If you are not shooting fine art photographs and just snapping pics you are killing your storage, your relatives and friends by taking and trying to email and share huge file sizes. I.E. The camera on my phone allows about 8 photo size choices and I use the second to smallest 1280 x720 0.9M. Most cameras are set by default for the top end of the photo size which yields massive file sizes.
  2. In whatever photo editing software you choose to use, they offer an option to reduce image size and adjust it after the fact to make for more manageable photos.

I prefer #1 and use #2 to adjust photos for each need after the fact as well.

We are very fortunate this year at Scamp Camp SW that SOI Member Jon Vermilye, whose blog Lakeshore Images we list in our travel blog section will be teaching an informal Q & A class on how to take and manage digital images. Jon has some masterful images posted on his blog and it should be a very helpful seminar for those attending Scamp Camp SW.

We will also be posting SOI youtube channel videos with step by step instructions on how to post your photos on the forum.

Stay tuned!

Email?

This is newby question,  where would I see notification that I have an email sent to me via SOI forum?  If it is on the home page, I haven't been able to find it.
