Hello Scampers,
I've checked the Index for modifications and search water pump in the forums but I didn't see what I need to know.
I've ordered a new Surflo 4008-101-E65, a city water hookup inlet, bigger sink and a faucet.
Question #1 is: When you are hooked up to city water, don't you leave it hooked up the whole time while you are camping to cause water pressure in your water tank? There is a overflow tube on the top of the tank so it can not create pressure, should I clamp off the overflow?
Second question is; If the tank has pressure will it harm the water pump? Should it be installed with a water pump bypass?
I don't know how this works so please help!
I've been modifying this 85, 13" Scamp since I got it one year ago the end of July. Even in the winter, I just put "one" hair dryer on high and it warms the Scamp just fine.
Scampers, you have been a big help in the past, thank you,
You're (I think) combining two different fresh water functions as a single operation... Click "here" and this will take you to a youtube site where it shows how most camper fresh waters systems work... Hope this helps...
PS: Basically under normal service; your fresh water tank uses the 12 volt pump and your city water does NOT! If you are hookup to city water, you will NOT be using your fresh water tank and therefore you will NOT be using your 12 volt pump either. Also, if you have a new city water inlet, make sure it has a regulator in it or that you can use a portable one if not.
Thank you, very good video!
So I can both options. the fresh water tank outlet tube will go to the pump inlet, the pump outlet tube with on/off handle will go to a 3 way T connection with barbs. The city water tube with on/off will go to the second connection on the 3 way. and the faucet tube will go to the third 3 way connection.
The pump will be shut off when city water is in use. Did I get all that correct?
About a water regulator, Is that a Pressure regulator??? or is it water quantity?? The city water inlet I have has a very small hole ( about 1/8 ") for water to get in. Will I still need a regulator?

This is a very basic drawing. Normally the 12 volt water pump with filter and the city water pressure regulator should have check-valves already installed in them. If you are not sure, please contact the store where you bought them and confirm this. If they don't have these check-valves, then extra on/off valves WILL be required. Also check with them if the City water inlet is also a water pressure regulator...
Nice traffic, Scott,
I'm understanding more and more.
Thank you for your help.

You said: The city water inlet I have has a very small hole ( about 1/8 ") for water to get in. Will I still need a regulator?
Yes, the pressure regulator is definitely a good idea. The "very small hole" flow restriction will cause a pressure drop which is proportional to the flow rate. When the flow stops, the pressure drop goes to zero as well and the pressure equalizes in the whole system.

Paul, Thank you for that info, I'll get one!
thanks again

Hi Lis,
We do have a very good thread on adding City Water Inlet and onboard pump to a 13 Scamp that had neither. For some reason it didn't get in the mods contents list which I'm adding now.

Basically as Scott says they operate as two separate systems. I use a two handle faucet and hook the Cold side to city water and the Hot side to the onboard water system which should be shown in that thread.

A very easy way to further describe is is that when you are on city water,it bypasses the normal system and the on board water tank, and provides all you need, no reason to turn on the water pump switch as well. City water does it all, must need the hot water tank on for,hot water.
