Trailer ID

Is there information anywhere showing production numbers for early SCAMPS?  While having a conversation with a Scamp rep. yesterday, he proceeded to give me a little history on my trailer.  I was initially calling to order a shower floor so I could begin building around that shape. He told me that Scamp did not even offer a bathroom in 1979, in fact it wasn't until sometime in the 80"s that they were offered in 16 footers. This particular area ( it has the #4 layout) was a pantry/ storage area. He then told me that in 1979, they were still really pushing the 13 foot campers and that by the time  mine was made in August of 79, no more than 15 of the sixteen foot models had been built!   I would like to know how many of these early campers still exist and are on the road.

As it turns out, since most of my interior was missing when I purchased my trailer, it looks like I will building my own unless I can find pre-fire pieces. It appears that the design changed so much after the fire, there is not much chance of any of the modern pieces fitting....

79 Scamp/Acorn

Arvonian

In 1979 Scamp's were renamed Acorn due to a legal dispute over the name. I think they may have used both names during that year but not sure. If you go to FGRV and search Acorn you can find posts of at least three 79 Acorn 16's, some posts include interior pictures. The production records were lost in the fire but Floyd quoted the first year production numbers in one of the Acorn posts. Floyd is the only person I know who may know the early years production numbers. There is no way of knowing how many Scamps are currently on the road

FWIW: I owned a 1982 with bath/shower and gravity shower drain to the small fiberglass greywater tank. The HW heater was a small under counter elec. water heater and  the trailer had 2.2K axle with 7" brakes.

Scamp 16

I found a post and spreadsheet about Scamp. The Scamp-16 was developed in 1978. The spread sheets indicates all 1979 S-13 and S-16 were labeled as Acorns. In 1980 they renamed the trailers Scamp again. See the spreadsheet around post #87 of the following link.

More good reading about early production. Scamp story.

Thanks Eddie,

As usual some good stuff from you....  Interesting that they were renamed Acorn as mine has the SCAMP logo with a build date of 8/79 stamped in the frame rail....

Manufacture date

Hi ,

I don't know  if trailers are the same but I know if it was a car built after 7/79 it would be classified as an 80 as anything built after the 7 month would be considered the next years model ..... I know this from my past experience working in the auto industry .....
